Hood Insulation

Can anyone give me a good reason to keep this under hood insulation? It's not in the best shape anyway due to a previous paint job before I owned it.

I think it is there originally for sound deadening. So it may be a bit louder without.

My 05 TJR never came with one.

I think it was only on the LJs and Saharas? Not 100% sure though.

I'm pretty sure I have it because it came with some kind of winter package. It also came with a block heater.
