How do I remove a rusted on brake drum?

I know it been addressed before, but I can't find the thread. How do I remove a rusted on brake drum. The shoes are not locked on, but the center of the drum is locked on the axle. I remember seeing something about a two part solvent that worked pretty good. Any help would be appreciated.

Have tried everything from solvent to a 3 arm pulled, to heat. Nothing moves.

I used to use a small sledge hammer to remove stubborn ones. You don't need to go all out with the swings, but good hits around it should make it break free.

I know you said the shoes are not locked on, but back them off as much as you can anyway in case they are catching on a lip on the inside of the drum.

Yup, that was the first thing I did. I got it off though using the afore recommended BFH. Thanks everyone for the help.

Hit it with the hammer between the lug bolts and not around the outside. Put some wheel nuts over the studs in case of a misplaced swing. It’s frozen to the axle and not the shoes. A few good smacks and they always pop free.

Your right, it was solid to the axle. A couple of good hard smack's on the backside of the drum got it moving.

There are two possible sounds that occur when this works, one is ringing (like a bell) the other is rust hitting the cement (like hail). Hopefully the rust lost in it's effort to stop the ringing.
