How do you secure tools, cargo?

I have a better TJ, so I can't say. I could get you some measurements of how far it needs inside the tailgate, however.
Oh yeah, my bad, I forgot you had the TJ Unlimited. 🤣

I am using an ATV box mounted to the floor with nutserts. I believe it was @MountaineerTom who had come up with the original idea. I havent had a rear seat in years, so the nutserts and rigid mounting made it easy for me. It contains all my recovery gear in the wheeling season. Winter gear and some other things in the winter.

Looks good! I love mine and it stays in 99% of the time.

All my tools go in bags under the rear seat or under the instatrunk. Fluids in the instatrunk as well. Spare parts or my impact bag sometimes get strapped to the top of the instatrunk shelf. Any duffel bags, food, stoves etc get tossed on the rear seat and a cargo net over top.

I really like the box wildman has, that would afford so much more locked space.

Cooler, chainsaw, tool bags all strapped down to eyelets beneath the tonneau cover. Can't risk anything flying and knocking you in the head in a rollover

Pack out measurements @JMT :

18.5” deep (tailgate to seat). You could easily trim off 1.5” on the seat side and about 1/2” on the tailgate side (more without the pack out socket set I have and only the toolbox). Dropping the 3rd brake light contacts helps, all the above assumes you rewired it.

thanks for the measurements. The base I could probably trim and if some of it extended under the rear seat it would be fine, if it’s not too thick. The large toolbox will fit I think. I’ll measure tomorrow. If they have one of these at my local Home Depot I might be in business. Right now I use the Bestop bag that goes between the B and C pillars of the rollbar, but I keep it in the back. I may put it back between the roll bars for this trip, just to keep the back space open for cooler. IDK. Thanks a lot.

I use this setup now. It's modular and easy to move around.

- Larger tools and fluids go in the bottom container.
- The middle one gets hand tools, straps, and recovery gear.
- U-joints and miscellaneous other small parts go in the top box.

I don't use the backseat anymore off-road, so I strap the stack down to the rear seat floor mounts. I also carry a small soft bag in the back with other essentials. My rule of thumb is, if the gear doesn't fit it those containers, I don't carry it on the trail!

Are they pretty sturdy?

If strapped down correctly, very. I've carried them both stacked and separated. Since I have more space, I separate them now. It makes accessing them much easier than if they're stacked.
I’ve got a small, cheap plastic box that I use when we take the Jeep on our mini vacations. It’s pretty thin plastic that wouldn’t hold up to heavy abuse, but it works well for the light use stuff it sees. I might have to look into those Rigid boxes in the future.

I put all my tools in tool rolls. I think they take up the least amount of space. they either go in the insta trunk or behind one of the seats. all my fuses are in a box that fits nicely on the side of the drivers seat.

I use a behind-the-rear-seat interior cargo rack. Anything underneath that shifts won't go far, anything above is strapped down.

Whats the theory behind leaving the back seat in? Just curious. As u cant put it down with the rack in the way. Why not remove the seat and enlarge the rack?

Its the most beautiful rack on this forum btw. Really nice work. I may put a HF hitch tray in mine.
