Huge disappointment with 1 Factory Radio

I like that. What speakers did you get, and is the subwoofer output meant to be used with a powered sub?
edit: whoa, I just saw that it is Android 10 and not upgradeable, how's that working?

I’ve got kickers F/R (4x6 and 5.25), sound ordnance (Crutchfield house brand) powered sub https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777B8PTD/Sound-Ordnance-B-8PTD.html @Irun has a great write up on mounting under your drivers seat and this amp https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KAM1814/Kenwood-KAC-M1814.html @PRNDL and others have write ups on mounting under the steering column.

@B1Toad I’ve been running it since March without issues. I emailed them when I installed it for then current firmware, which they sent and I’ve not had an issue since then. Including running IOS 17 beta, I also don’t use any of the Android features, it’s essentially a screen for CarPlay.

Thanks, probably sounds pretty good. I bookmarked everything. Car stereo is so confusing to me. For instance if the head unit has 4x50 watts why do you need an amp that's 4x45 watts?

I see the Joying is 45x4, I guess the Kenwood gives a cleaner, better sound? Does the Joying have preamp outputs? Sorry for all the Q's

it has pre-Amps but they were on the lower power side, the amp helps give them a boost, especially with a soft top. There is a thread here somewhere which gives a really good breakdown on upgrading your sound system, I’m certainly not the expert.

You might want to look into the Alpine Halo series also. It has the latest and greatest with wireless android auto etc, and is certainly expensive, but I have installed with only a single din fascia in my stock bezel, but the result is an 11 inch floating screen. Has been an absolute lifesaver driving around Sydney. The only thing is that the dash air conditioning vents get obscured by the screen (with the 9 inch this is less of an issue and you can adjust the mounting height vertically), note I have the vents directed straight up past the screen anyway. You can also run in your dash cam, front, side and rear cams, USB memory with movies etc on, and even HDMI stuff, like a Chromecast.

I don't have a photo of it with AA open, but my typical experience is about a third of the screen with Spotify on it, and the other two thirds with Google Maps, which I expand to the whole screen as needed. It's actually been a pretty damn amazing system. Next goal is to run in a reversing cam and hook it up to the reverse lamp signal wire, or fuse, so that is comes on when I shift to R.

To my knowledge it has 4 x 50w RMS built in D class amplifier, so I am running Alpine R 6.5" component speakers with tweeters in the rear sound bar, and 5" speakers in custom 3D printed pods in the front dash. Haven't quite done it yet, but the plan is to install a Kicker 500.1 Mono amp to power the Kicker 6.75" 4 ohm sub in the console. Tbh at the moment I have no sub and it's still pretty nice to listen to.

Thanks, I actually have that thread bookmarked but I'm looking for the thread by Irun on how he installed that amp. If I find someone who has a system that sounds good I'll copy it! Did you buy the 50 watt Kickers?

Lucky I bought her a pristine condition Hardtop LJ, and unlike most teenagers these days she is grateful.

I’m still baffled by the original comment to you (which he deleted). You buy your daughter an LJ and somehow you’re a cheap ass?

What a rude fucking thing to say.

Thanks! I thought the same thing. I was just trying to help a brother out they may have wanted to keep a factory look and still have bluetooth. You know, sharing experiences to help each other out here on this board is what it's about. Then I realized WHO made the comment. I've seen him do it to others on this board. No place for that here, or in this world! Makes me want to "check out" of this forum. Take care.

I liked your option actually. I have a little one that plugs into the cigarette lighter and works fine but I might have to check out the one you linked.

It was a comment about buying a nice Jeep and using the stock stereo and not replacing it with a quality one. If you think that was rude, you don't know me well.

Sorry if I offended you. It was more of a comment on the quality of the factory stereo. It wasn't personal at all.

I upgraded my head unit to the latest Kenwood KMM-X705 single din unit. At 22w per channel (peak is 50w), the audio was clipping well before it was decently audible with the top down. After the amp install (5 channel Soundstream Picasso Nano 640D 4ohm @ 60w per channel + 200w sub), the audio is clean and clear well beyond a comfortable listening volume. The addition of the separate amp was the single best improvement in the system sound. Second place goes to the component front speakers though my knees can't hear as well anymore.

Kenwood KMM-X705
Soundstream Picasso Nano 640D
Kicker 47KSS504 Component 5.25" fronts
Polk DB522 5.25" rears
Goldwood GW-S650/4 6-1/2" ($25) subwoofer in the factory center console.
