I'm an idiot...

I finished installing my stereo system a month ago or so. I've been very impressed with it, but one thing that always got me was that even when you turned the volume up to 35 (as high as it goes), it was never blazingly loud.

I figured I must need an aftermarket amp to get that sort of volume.

Well, today it dawned on me for the first time... I've been using Bluetooth streaming from my iPhone, and I totally had forgotten that the Bluetooth volume on my iPhone was only set to 1/3 of the max volume. I turned it all the way up, cranked the volume on my head unit, and HOLY COW!!!

This thing is LOUD! So loud in fact, that driving down the highway at 60 mph I could easily hear the music, even at half volume.

Couple the Polk Audio speakers with the Kicker subwoofer and Kicker amp I have powering it, and this thing is just unreal. I never really realized how fantastic of an upgrade this was until today, all because I had the Bluetooth volume on my phone down so low... Duh!!

Haha! Did the exact same thing on my Android phone and didn't realize it, but wasn't going to admit it, lol!

I find on my system that the radio does not come in nearly as loud as it is when I use the usb for music.

No kidding, it was like getting a new Jeep part in the mail, I was stoked!

I think I'm going to switch to using a USB cable as well. I know Bluetooth streaming downgrades auto quality a bit as well.

no, I use a usb flash drive to play my music, plugs right onto the head unit.

I’ve done/do the same thing. Have a Bluetooth system in my motorcycle helmet. Many times I have left the house on the scoot only to pull over once the wind noise picks up to pull out my phone to adjust the volume.

UPDATE:
Well, I never did find the gremlin that keeps turning the CEL on but everything else seems to be working. Took it out a couple weeks ago and the new 35s bent the tie rod up pretty good (upgrade time), new gears and an Aussie locker in the rear, and working on installing a new set of shocks now (the Rancho RS5000X seems to be a popular choice here). Oh, and I am replacing the fuel tank skid and while it's down, I want to change the fuel pump module but there's a lot of discussion around which brand to get. Anyway, Rooster is alive and well.

One of my first things that I did to Ripley was to replace the crap oem radio with a Sony N5300 to have a connection port for my ipod and a cd slot. I didn’t mess with the speakers but in my half cab it sounds great. Gotta have my rock and roll so I ‘don’t get fooled again.’
