Is my front driveshaft toast?

So I just purchased my first Jeep and am redoing the whole front end. I noticed where the cardan joint goes on the front driveshaft half of the splines are gone. So is this a junk driveshaft now or not? Thanks for the help.

Trash it, get a replacement from Tom Wood at www.4xshaft.com. Have them build it with sealed Spicer 5-1310x u-joints.

What are you all talking about? That stud was never splined. It goes into the centering ball where the needle bearings ride on it. If it's not worn down why would you scrap it?

Why you are correct on where it goes and what it does, the part is far from being able to be reused. If you look closely at the picture he posted you’ll see why everyone says junk.

They are pretty much talking about the fact that it never was splined from the factory and it shouldn't have had any splines added.

The "splines" are actually where the ujoint needle bearings have seized from lack of lubrication and imprinted and hammered the metal in. There is no saving it.

Not so much as the splines are gone (per the OP), but rather its starting to develop wear marks from the bearings.
