Is my transfer case chain stretched?

So my trans fer case is stuck in 4WD and it sounds like the chain ships at times. I just pulled it but have not opened it up. I can not move the shift lever. When I hold the 2 shafts and move 1 there is about 1/4 - 1/2 when measuring the out side of the yoke to the case. I will open it next time in the shop but wondering if the chain is streched.

It is a NP231J in a 97 automatic.

I think @jjvw had a crazy stretch in his chain in the 241 - I’d be curious what he noticed that lead to a TC rebuild.

I think the new chain and rebuild reduced the overall rumble of the Jeep. But I also have to wonder what this new chain measures now with a few thousand miles on it.
