Is there a such thing as A/T tires that don't chunk?

My son had KMTs on his LJR. He was the only one in our group who got up Jaws 4 without assistance. However, they got worse gas mileage, were rough riding and noisy. He returned to KOs, now KO2s.

MTs ride like shit. I've had them on my trucks for so long that I don't hear the road noise anymore. I have no practical reason for running MTs on my DD but I just can't get past the look. A truck has to have meaty tires. The KO2s on my Ford are just enough for me to keep them but not enough for me to be happy with them.
