Is there a such thing as A/T tires that don't chunk?

Forgot to add pics and give an update. The game plan is to get a set of 15x8 wheels, 33" KM3's, and a set of narrow similarly sized all terrains on the Moab wheels for daily driving. Along with a regear and possibly upgraded shafts and lockers, it's gonna be a big ticket 🤑.

The Duratracs need to be put out of their misery...

I may go with Duratracs again for the all terrains. They were nice on the road, but just can't handle the rocks.
How old are those tires? They look dry rotted, maybe that's why they chunked.

they were good 10 years ago.

LOL! I'm still on KOs. They refuse to wear out.

I wish they would wear out a bit faster, LOL. I like MTs on my truck but the KO2's came stock and I just can't bring myself to replace them for no other reason than "its what I like". They are awesome tires.

Not sure, but I know they're not old enough to expect dry rotting already. But yeah, they have all the little dry rot cracks all over too.

KO2's come stock on the brand NEW Ford Raptors. Just because they have been around a while doesn't make them obsolete. They are tried and true and IMHO the best AT available.
maybe. Doesn't mean they're the best. Could just be that BFG won the bidding war to supply the Raptor over other brands.

I agree, they were good ten years ago but advancements in rock technology has made the KO2’s obsolete now.

They may not be the best rock crawling ATs but he stated this is a daily driver with trips 2-3 times a year. The best "rock crawlers" wouldn't translate to the best evey day drivers.

Market familiarity plays a role. Lots of people think those are a good tire. It doesn't mean they are a good tire. 🤣

Best is an opinion. What makes the KO2 obsolete? What technology has come out in the past 10 years that makes the "new" designs so much better? I stated the Raptor has stock KO2's to show that these were not just yesterday's tires and still considered a top line option. Not to show they are better or worse than any other tire,

I went through several A/T tires and wasn't happy with them. My two biggest issues with them were chunking and sidewall strength. Not wanting to run a M/T, I ultimately settled on a hybrid. My go-to now is the Mickey Thompson (MT) ATZ P3. These have proven to be very tough, but you do need to rotate them regularly. I see they're made in a 265/75R16. However, they are listed as an "E" rated tire.

MT does make an A/T, the Baja Boss, but it is not available in a 16" size.

The Baja Boss has my vote as well. I have the Boss M/T's on my JT and love them! The tread pattern on the A/T is very similar, but the blocks have more siping, and the side biters are slightly different. The A/T is also rated/warrantied for 50,000 miles...

Unless the wife interjects, I plan on running the Boss M/T 33's on the TJ when I lift it.

I’ve had at the very minimum 15 sets of KO’s or KO2’s since about 1994 and they are still my go-to tire for most of the vehicles I’ve owned over the years.
The only exception has been my current Ram 2500 Diesel where in past experience the KO2’s just don’t seem the last long on heavier trucks

I currently have a set of KO’s on the TJ… 31’s.. only have about 4,000 miles on them, and after 9 years they need to be replaced due to dry rot

They did not exist as K02s 10 years ago. The K02 debuted in 2015. They had something similar before that but NOT a K02.

So just to set the record straight, K02 technology is 6 years old max, assuming they haven't made any changes since then which they almost surely have.

Read my lips: I'm talking "KO"s.

Well, it's time for new tires. My Duratracs have been to hell and back (literally, down and up hell's gate). They've seen Texas limestone, Moab slickrock, and Arkansas rocks, and they are in terrible condition. I got a flat yesterday from a large crack or slit that developed in the sidewall. There's so much tread missing and large tears in the sidewalls. I don't trust them anymore.

My dilemma is that my use case is mostly road miles, and about 3 wheeling trips a year. So all terrains have been great for daily driving, but when I do wheel, these tires simply don't hold up to the abuse.

Basically, I'm looking for either a really tough all terrain that can hold up to rock crawling, if that even exists, or make the compromise of daily driving on M/T tires.
