Issues with ARB compressor in engine bay

Curious if anyone has experienced failures with running an ARB compressor under the hood?

On a different forum there’s a thread discussing them failing and ARB saying to mount them anywhere but under the hood.

Mine’s been in the engine bay for a couple years and still works.

I have had mine under the hood for about 4 years. Seems to work fine. Where else are you going to put it?

I ran a used old style ARB compressor under the hood of my FJ55 for over a decade. It was the absolute most miserably hot and harsh environments for one of those I could ever imagine and I didnt kill it.

My ARB single is over on the ABS tray like so many on here, been running just fine for about 6months now, was already a used compressor when I got it for whatever that is worth.

Could mount it behind the seats.

I’ve never heard of issues so that’s why I asked and I know my hood has been hot enough I needed gloves to open it. Mine runs quite a bit too since I have a seal out in my ARB that I need to fix.

Mine’s a twin on the ABS tray.

One of the failures I read about was a TJ with a twin on the master cylinder mount

I’ve never heard of issues so that’s why I asked and I know my hood has been hot enough I needed gloves to open it. Mine runs quite a bit too since I have a seal out in my ARB that I need to fix.

I do have a hood vent to remove some of the heat from under the hood. I do open the hood when I am airing up. I have also thought of remote mounting the air filter inlet to outside to draw cool air in. Mine does not run much at all with 2 lockers and swayloc.

That wasn't about it being cool, I was just looking for a more dust free environment. I air up with the hood open since the air hose is running off the top of the pump. Obviously, not the case when you're running the lockers.

My dual has been on the ABS tray for about 7 years not a single issue. I ran the air filter into the cab with a longer hose. That wasn't about it being cool, I was just looking for a more dust free environment. I air up with the hood open since the air hose is running off the top of the pump. Obviously, not the case when you're running the lockers.

My thoughts were on moving it was also the cleaner air. I didn’t think of putting the inlet in the cab. How noisy is it?

Almost 7 years under the hood and had a pressure switch fail.

I've been running one of the compact ones on a master cylinder bracket for around 10 years. No failures yet.

or the compressor running continuously (for tires) in a hot environment?
On a previous jeep I had one of the old (original single) ones go bad due to heat, but I was using it for tires.
I don't think it was designed to run continuously while filling my tires and tank.

Sounds like heat. Here are some quotes from the other forum.

- I wish I saw this before I mounted my ARB compressor under hood. Failed in 1 year.

- I know several people that mounted an ARB compressor under the hood of their Jeep then the compressor quit after a tear or two. When I added the dual motor compressor to mine, I called ARB to talk about locations first. The guy I talked to told me to put it “LITERALLY ANYWHERE EXCEPT UNDER THE HOOD” because that’s where they see the highest rate of failure because of excessive heat. I chose to listen to the people that build and analyze failures on these. It’s under the passenger seat in my jeep and in the bed of my truck.

- Back in my Jeeping days, I put an ARB Compressor under the hood of my TJ. I even used the ARB mounting bracket that placed it beside the Master Cylinder. The Compressor failed with a year. So did several other guys in our Jeep Club that did the same mod. ARB refused to warranty mine. I'm not sure if it failed because of Heat, or if I got a shitty Compressor .. ??

I've had mine short cycle because it got to hot, but it started right back up an hour later. Of course, that was also when my cats went bad - so I assume it was proximity to that glowing inferno.
