Jeep Clubs?

What I'm realizing reading this is how spoiled we are in Colorado! We only have one off road park that I know of. We are fortunate to have thousands of miles of public land, old mining trails, National Forest, ECT...
This thread got me Googling "off road groups" instead of clubs. Found another forum that look interesting, Front Range 4x4. Signed up and we'll see what they're about. Appreciate everyones feed back.

Yes being out WEST is a blessing. We have a few ORV parks here in WA but then we have tons of trails and FS roads to drive on. And here in WA the anti-motorized folks have been able to close down a HUGE amount of our available trails that we used to have.
Enjoy it while you can.

And yes I'll agree that I like the smaller groups most times but have also either lead or helped groups of up to 20 on trail runs. It's almost like herding cats...

Years ago we used to have a "All or Nothing" Run. We'd hit every trail in the Little Naches area. Some years we'd get done in 20-22 hours and other years it might be 30-35 hours to make the whole run. But it was always FUN...

Even if you're not a club member support the local & national orgs that are fighting for our use rights.

That's how I got the off-roading bug. I visited a friend of mine who lived near Woodland Park, CO and he lived on a dead end street that backed up to BLM land. We were suppose to go snowboarding but the snow that year wasn't great (late March) so, he said "I've got a Suzuki Samurai. Want to go wheeling instead?" I said "Sure." We left from his house around 9:00 in the morning and came back around 6:00 and never hit the same trail or saw the same scenery twice. I was hooked. Only issue was when I got back to NY, there are no public lands to wheel on even though we have tons of state land up in the Adirondacks. I always thought it would be cool to have access like you guys do in CO and out west. That was when I realized I needed to get into a club or organization and get with like minded people.

That is how it was for me in Arizona when I lived there. So many trail options, so much access. A wheeler’s dream.

Then I moved to Minneapolis for a job, a wheeler’s nightmare. private land in all directions, some state trails but far away and mostly sized limited for ATVs.

I will fix that soon enough!

Google it. It’s a fun organization. It has it’s origins with the California gold rush and was restarted in the 30s. Best described as a Historical Fraternity with a drinking problem. While it’s not a 4x4 organization at the places we go a 4x4 comes in handy.

I have a Clamper buddy here in NE NV. I know they go out in the boonies but didn't know anything about the historical aspect; always thought it was all about the booze. Loads of historical stuff around here, too.

Was a member locally for a couple year until it turned into a total shit-show. I got banned for speaking truth to (perceived) power. Don't know it the club is stiil active or not. We just get a few of us together and cruise the bazillions of miles of BLM/USFS land on a few days notice. Mostly have a great time.

Finally getting setup to get the LJR to SW Montana next summer so I can wheel some of my old stomping grounds. I spend a month or 2 there.
I'll likely be up there alone for part of the summer so can travel to meet for a trail run if anyone in the region wants to take the time. I also know of some good areas near Philipsburg/Anaconda that would be worthwhile (Beaverhead/Deer Lodge NF).

Montana Offroad Adventures (FB) looks like a great club. They let me join their FB page so I can see if they're doing anything while I'm in the area. Some of the trails they drive, maintain and repair are places I went 50+ years ago so will see if they might let me tag along.
 
Being is a Jeep Club doesn't prohibit you from wheeling with different groups. I've been out to other clubs organized events, Cal 4 Wheel events and some meetups on my own.
I Prefer our club runs. Were a small group everybody gets along and has the opportunity to pick what trail they want to run. You have to have a different mindset when going out with larger groups knowing it's going to be a long day. I seen some pretty entertaining driving from complete strangers sometimes it's worth waiting around for.
 
When I had my CJ7, it was just a bunch of friends that got together and went wheeling. It was great.

Then we all got older and moved on in life and I didn't get to do much wheeling anymore so I sold the CJ7.

Years go by and I bought a new 2017 JK.

I thought "I'll join a local Jeep club and meet some more wheelers"

Didn't quite turn out like that.

I went on 2 "Events" and both were clusters with a hundred chromed out Jeeps showing up, most not knowing how to actually use their Jeep, and ending up as a traffic jam in the woods. Fun was not had on those trips. Didn't go on any more "Events".

Tried a test run with a group that accepted any 4x4. Dually 3500 Dodges do not make for fun trail rides either when they clog/destroy the trail.

Now with my TJ, I've met some really great folks on this forum but it's not really a "Club".

Just a bunch of guys getting together to enjoy their Jeeps and the outdoors, just like it was meant to be.

Biggest count we've had was maybe 10 vehicles and that was quite manageable.

Much more than that becomes unwieldy.

I'm back to enjoying wheeling.

Jeep Club outing here-

- Big Ride, we meet at Saturday 8 am , texaco at moores mill road

- 6 people are there. Stand around and talk about tire size. Where we going ? To meet 4 more guys en route 30 miles away

- drive 30 miles to shell. 4 rigs there. Pee, stand around and talk about their tires.

-next stop-Citgo Station, 44 miles, Ricky and Marsha are there and 4 other couples. Pee again. Talk about tire size.


Then lunch

1:40 trailhead - half the group cant stay, won’t do some trails, etc.

2 hours lost “looking for the trail”


Now time to go- everyone wants Mexican food.


Now when me ,@Hog,@tnjeepguy,@John Cooper, @RangerTJ,@tr21triton and others hook up- bring tools and know how to wrench, winch and pull an axle. All that usually happens before the trail. Then it gets real wild.
