Jeep Green LJ Rubicon build (gonna be slow)

Well looks like I wasted some money by having a shop work on my shit. They installed the upper control arms and put it on an alignment machine and got the results below. Still have my driveline vibration, I checked the driveshaft vs pinion angle on the front and the pinion is 5.5 and the driveshaft is 10.5, so that’s way off. Looks like they focused more on the castor angle. And to top it off I got my jeep back and the door panel now has a crack in it.

that crack looks more like a box knife slice, but could just be the picture.

sorry to hear about the shop BS

That Sucks! I haven't had the panels off of either of my TJs - the older one has that same crack on driver and passenger sides and have noticed it on several other TJs - anyone know what causes it?? I'd like to prevent it on my '04 of I can.

Sorry about your door. My 05 driver door panel has that exact same crack even with the rest of the interior being in extremely good condition.

Small update: Just had new Spicer Dana ball joints installed as well as Spicer axle u-joints and Timken unit bearings. All vibrations have finally subsided now. Also installed new Centric rotors and Black Magic brakes up front. Going to install rear Centric rotors and brakes pads within a month probably. Trying to get the jeep road trip worthy. Also took my M416 trailer on its maiden voyage last weekend and all was good except my lighting, hopefully going to fix that this weekend. Need to get a better picture of the trailer.

What shop did you have your control arms installed? Mine just developed its first driveline vib and trans leak. If you liked the shop I might go and get everything fixed all at once.

Well just placed an order with Revolution Gear for some USA rear axles. Should ship out tomorrow.

Last couple months the jeep has gotten a bunch of new parts, here is a little recap:
  • Savvy control arms front uppers and lowers. Rear lowers only
  • Savvy Fox shocks all the way around
  • Rebuilt Adam’s Off-road front driveshaft
  • New spicer ball joints
  • New spicer axle ujoints
  • New Timken unit bearings
  • Black magic front brakes with Centric rotor
Items currently on route to me
  • Revolution rear axles, USA made
  • New ujoints for the factory rear driveshaft
  • Rear centric rotors and brake pads
Next items to be ordered eventually
  • Savvy rear upper control arms
  • CV rear driveshaft

I cant believe youre driving this Jeep on the roads when snow is on the ground. Do they salt the roads there?

They spray the shit out of the roads anymore with this liquid that melts cars better than it does snow. My jeep isn’t my daily driver so it doesn’t see the snow too often. Most of my winter driving it to and from my cabin up north. If it gets salt on it, I wash it pretty thoroughly on the underside right away.

Plan on changing the gear oil front and rear this weekend. I ordered Lubelockers and Torco RGO 85W-140. If I have enough time I may replace the rear axles as well. It doesn't seem like that's too big of project, but I know how most things go with my jeep. Something that should take an hour, takes a day or two. May change out my spark plugs as well, they are well past due for a change.

Order Savvy rear upper control arms as well this past week, should have them by Monday next week. That will complete my Savvy control arm set. I will be ordering a Adams rear shaft for it sometime soon now as well.

Any reason you chose Adams over Tom Woods? I'm ordering a new front driveshaft this weekend.
I’m going with Adam’s because I currently have an Adam’s up front. The Adam’s did have the cv go out and I had it rebuilt by Quigley 4x4 in Manchester, after I received 2 Tom’s Woods shafts that weren’t balanced 100% and causing vibrations. There may be the high likelihood I actually go with Quigley for a rear shaft, time will tell. I have heard from others about their Tom woods shafts causing vibrations and Tom’s sending them 2-3 replacements.

Now that you mention it I have seen a few people return their driveshafts from Tom Woods, we'll see, I ordered from Adams.

Made some progress over the last 2 days. Yesterday changed out the front diff oil to Torco 85w-140 and installed a Lubelocker gasket. So far no leaks up front, hope it stays that way. The original gear oil didn't look to bad actual, I was expecting worse. Today I changed out my spark plugs and installed the rear upper savvy control arms. I finally have my full Savvy set installed. Between tomorrow and the weekend I will attempt the new rear axle shaft install and rear diff oil change. Hopefully this goes as smoothly as the the last two days have.

Here to hoping I installed the rear axles properly!! Just finished up both sides. I reused the original nuts with blue loctite on the retainer plate, hope that was okay to do. All that is left is to change the rear diff oil and get a rear driveshaft ordered.
