JMT's idea: list one mod you regret

I’ve done and re-done a ton of stuff on my jeep, but I don’t regret most of it since I had fun for a substantial amount of time on most setups, any thing else I chalked up to “we’ll at least I learned something”

But one thing I do regret was getting the bolt-on full traction rear 3 link bracket. Major PITA to do any maintenance, heavy and just dumb, I have the weld on bracket now, much easier to do anything rear end related, lighter and less complicated. Plus it made it much easier to set up the geometry and I got like an inch and a half, almost two inches of wheelbase

I'll second the rear Detroit, which I ran in my YJ for 10 years. I never got to the point that I was comfortable with it. Most of the time it behaved, but every once in a while on a low-speed 90* turn it would crow-hop or bind/ un-bind the drivetrain (with violence). I thought I was going to lose a u-joint each time it did.

an aluminum radiator and electric fans...because I moved the steering box forward 1.5" and it didnt clear the original radiator.

When I purchase my next jeep I'm going to take @Daryl's advice and just buy one that somebody already dumped a stupid amount of money into.

So far, my biggest mistake has been installing this receiver with the stock rear bumper:

I did need a receiver, but I immediately had issues with the exhaust flare the PO had installed rubbing against the receiver mounts. And I lost a lot of departure clearance, so I hit it on a lot of rocks. That was eventually the demise of the PO's exhaust flare when I crunched it against the receiver.

Fixed it by installing a Dirtworx rear bumper, which is what I should have done in the first place.

My first (an 05 LJ I bought in 2010 with 54k) was like that. When I bought my current one I thought I was saving some time and money with a 3" lift already done, but I've spent at least as much time and money correcting stupid crap as I would have starting from scratch.

Knowing what I know now and being in no rush to buy anything, it would need to be the perfect rig for me to swap. Maybe one-day @toximus will get tired of the red one he's building.

Most recent regret? The Bestop Nextop NX!!!

Not the top itself so much, but the fact that I tried to install it on the day the first cold snap rolled through. Got about 1/2 way along the install and it got cloudy, windy, and the temp dropped into the 30s as the sun went down. I gave up. There's about 2" of gap on each corner. The top is now generally draped over the Jeep. Maybe this weekend.

I just installed the same top last week on an 80° day. They are no joke tight. But so nice. There is no sagging or drooping anywhere. Hopefully you will love it when things warm up again next spring

Hahaha next spring, yeah It's supposed to get back in the 60's this weekend. I'll give it another shot. Alternatively I'll relocate the heat lamp from the woodshop to the garage. I ordered it to see if I'd like it better than dicking with going between a hardtop and a bikini. If so I can sell my hardtop around here for $1200 easy and not have to mess with removing it and storing it.
