Let's talk about tires

I searched and didn’t seem to see much discussion on tires. What do you run? What works well in the snow, mud and rocks?
I have run cooper sst a few years back. They were a solid tire, but I sold the rig before any real off-road testing.

Goodyear duratrac ran in the YJ were a good A/T type tire. Just weren’t aggressive enough.

I am currently running BFG km2. Have not had them in the rocks yet. But I am not impressed with them in the snow.

So what are you all running?

I am currently running Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ P3 tires, installed by the previous owner, which I have found to be a very good all purpose aggressive AT type tire that works much better than expected in the rocks. Snow is another story.

The performance star for snow wheeling in my area this winter (near Mt. Lassen and Mt. Shasta) has been the Milestar Patagonia. Everyone who has them seems to rave about them.

My next tires may be Patagonias depending on the long term reviews. Or Cooper STT Pros based on my positive experiences with the Cooper ST/Maxx on my other 4WD vehicle.

I run Bf Goodrich Ko2 ‘s , I’d say they are great all around except mud , and likely not great in snow .

We don’t see much snow in north Alabama , but when we do no one knows how to drive in it anyway . It’s pandemonium.

You're seeking the Holy Grail of tires. Snow, mud, and rocks are so dissimilar in all aspects that it's unlikely one single tire could ever be designed to be good in all three.

I like MTRs, but I hear the new KM3s do everything a KM2 can but are better in the snow. I have no firsthand experience with them though.

My Grabber X3's have been great in snow, mud and rocks. Quiet on the street as well.

I've been a fan on KO2s for years on other vehicles, they were about as agressive as you could get and still work for DD without noise. You can never go wrong with a set of KO2s.

That being said. I picked up a set of 31in milestar patagonia MTs for the TJ. If they stay this quiet over the next 20k miles I won't buy another set of KO2s. They're quiet on the highway, they work decently in the rain, they don't plug up with mud like a KO2, they grab rocks decently, they work on snow/slush covered roads, they work in deep snow, and to top it all off, they're dirt cheap.

They do everything a ko2 does, but better, with less noise when new. If they howl after a few thousand miles where they suck on road, I'll go back to KO2s or try the duratracks.

I ended up going with KO2s over the STT Pro's simply because the KO2s were cheaper and my grandfather worked for BFG for over 40 years, so we have a bit of a family thing with them.

I'm liking them a lot in the whole... 2 days I've had them (lol) - though I think I might go with the STT Pro's next time just for comparison's sake.

OK I'm new to this forum but need some help i have an opportunity to go back to old school for my tires and want to know if there will be any problems I have found a set of Gambler rims that are 15x8 with the 5x4.5 and came off a 1997 . Now i want to put them on a 2005 LJ and want to keep the same size tires that i have on there now 31x10.50x15 will i have any problem with this older rim ?

I only have A couple hundred street miles on the KO2's. Comparing them to my previous KM2's, they are wisper quiet, and handle well in the rain, and we've been getting a ton of rain. The thing I don't like about them is they pack gravel in the lugs more than previous tires. I live down a gravel road, so it's a bit noisy on the way to work once I hit pavement. Off road performance will be coming up in a couple weeks with a jeep run in the works.

Currently running MTRs, and while I really like them off-road, they suck in the the rain/snow.

My last sets were duratracs which I loved. Quiet, grippy in the rocks, awesome in the rain and snow.
