I have one these I really like using.

ABC Hammers ABC3BW Brass Hammer with 12.5" Wood Handle, 3 Lb https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GJWF3VE?tag=wranglerorg-20

I also have one of these too.

TEKTON 36 oz. Ball Peen Dead Blow Hammer | HDB50036 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094T18HFQ?tag=wranglerorg-20

a 4 or 5 pound sledge when stuff is really stuck.

Life is too short to have just one hammer in your life.

You may be right about that. Out of necessity I purchased this 48 oz drilling hammer. HD didn't have any selection in store for the ball peen dead blows, just one or the other.

Anyway, I got home and probably gave the knuckle another 10 good wacks with it before it finally came loose. We'll see what the driver side is like, but that thing was on there.

I'm on my second Mac Tools 32oz ball peen dead blow. The first lasted over 20 years and eventually failed because the plastic dried out enough that it cracked badly. Mac's warranty covered it, but they required me to ship it to them, so it cost me a few bucks. That said, I don't reach for that hammer when I want to use impact to break things loose. I've found a 32oz non-dead blow hammer to work better. My theory, which is just that - a theory, is that you want the highest impulse force you can get in that case, and a dead blow is designed to impart more total energy, but the peak force is less. Has my thinking been wrong all these years? (honest question)

I feel the same way , maybe it's from beating on stuff for decades , You get a sense of what will work in a given situation.

I've had good luck with a Craftsman 32oz ball peen for most of my non-frame bending work.
