Lunchbox locker opinions?

This has been a good thread. I was just going to ask about auto lockers and where should I put it. I’m glad I read this. It sounds like the best way to go is a selectable locker an it’s a coin toss on whether it goes in the front or back. Has anyone ran the ox lockers?

I’ll add my input on powertrax no slip. Positive experience so far for me as well. Been running it for a year now and it’s worked flawless and has been absolutely quiet and invisible when not in 4wd. Auto locker in the front and trutrac in the rear. I went lunchbox vs selectable due to the price difference. $400 vs $1000. IMO lunchbox lockers give best bang for your buck as far as performance mods go.

Front and rear is best, but if one locker only, go rear.

Ox, only a couple on here make the argument, usually they say its a mechanically simper design, less prone to failure. But that is all theoretical and not real world as no one with ARB and Eaton are reporting breakages, and these two lockers are used most widely and ARB by the best. I use a lunchbox up front and a selectable Eaton in rear

I'm going with "no slip power trax" since as far as I know it's the only one that's quiet and not clicking while on 2wd, others even when not beIN used will still play they song of they people when you turn .

I just had a Detroit Tru Trac installed in my Dana 44 rear and can't even tell it's there.

Powertrax is a locker. The trutrac is a LSD. There’s a big difference between the two. Depends on the usage of the Jeep as to which is more beneficial to run.

I get snow several months of the year and my TJ is my daily driver. I would not put a auto/lunchbox in the rear for that reason, but have put a Torq Master lunchbox locker (same company as Aussie but heavier duty) in the front. Off road performance is noticeable better. There are definitely slight understeer effects in snow and ice when I drive in 4WH around town or on the highway but once you are used to it and know what to expect, it is easy to compensate. I'm still running open rear, but may install a selectable eventually. The front lunchbox has been an extremely functional mod for the price.

That's good feedback. I have a lunchbox up front and just moved to Spokane. Enjoy the snow yesterday? I want to wheel some near Hayden. I hear there are some trails. Anyway, glad to know I can figure out the understeer in the snow, I'm going to need some parking lot practice.

I have a Grizzly (full case auto) in my rear (Dana 44) and a Spartan (lunchbox auto) in my front (Dana 30). This is my daily driver and it has a manual transmission. When I first drove it after the install I wondered if I would get used to the nuances of having auto lockers, and I have. When I do go off road I can now crawl though areas I used to have to gas it to keep moving. As far as the clicks and bangs, they are just more Jeep character to me. So for me, it is more enjoyable to drive knowing how capable it is. Your perspective may be different though.

Got a chance to head up into the mountains yesterday and there was enough snow on the steep Forrest road to put it in 4wd. Can't remember having snow in town in September before.

Have you done much/any driving on snow/ice on the road at any speed with the rear locker? I wouldn't mind trying one in my rear dana 44, but last time I had a rear locker on the street it was in a car in California with no snow.

I just saw a place that I think must just sell locker at the shopping center by my home. It's call LunchBox
