Measure Once, Cut Twice: A Story of Excitement and Impatience

the pinion looks high. if so, fix that which should address the interference.
Before the DW issues I had it lower, but when I put my DS back in I had vibes. It was 1deg lower than the DS. So yesterday I spent dialing out vibes. I adjusted in .5deg increments up to pinion 1deg higher than DS. Sweet spot was right around equal, which is where it's at now. With that said, the vibes were minimal at 1deg lower amd only really present above 70.

First is to make sure the axle is centered. Then pull the springs and cycle the axle up until you see the interference contact point and grind some out of that gusset. After that, you can relieve an area on the cover for the lower edge of the JJ barrel. We also add some slight bend in the trackbar just past the JJ where the bump in the diff cover for the ring gear is.

Got it. Axle is centered, so will pull springs, cycle, and grind as needed.

Currie pinion seal and gear oil here.

Been replacing my flooring in my house, so my garage is full of my setup for cutting the flooring and trim. As a result I've been working on my rig in the driveway. Well, putting off working on my rig in the driveway LOL.

Last night I decided to tackle the pinion seal replacement. I drained the diff fluid and pulled the cover to inspect everything before I replace the seal. While I had it open, I took some photos and noticed a couple gouges/deep scratches in my pinion gear. Axle and gears are new except for the break in miles and trip to Florida. I've heard no noises during its 3000 miles of life. Neither during the break in service fluid change nor this time were there any metal pieces or large shavings. There was only some light metallic dust in the diff fluid on the break in service.

so I'm curious what may have caused this and is it a cause of concern? Or, do I just put it back together, change the pinion seal, add diff fluid and move on? Side from the pinion gear, does anyone see anything unusual or of concern?

Should there be this few threads exposed on the pinion?

Or is that normal play without the preload from the pinion nut?

That’s perfectly normal. There should be no play when the yoke and pinion nut are installed and tightened to achieve proper pinion bearing preload.
Thank you. That's what I thought. I just wanted to verify. All back together with the new seal.

Finally got the e-lockers wired up. I used safety toggles instead of Eaton's paddle switches. Also got my Savvy engine skid installed. Had to clearance it at the drop down. Fits good though. Heading out for a shake down run at Rausch with @Camdenst tomorrow. I haven't had it offroad since I put the new axles in, which has been all year. Looking forward to seeing how it does.
