The MORryde and Exogate are the same thing, aren't they?

Here's the Exogate:
https://gr8tops.com/shop/jeepmodels/wrangler-lj-2/tj-lj-exogate

Here's the MORryde:
https://www.extremeterrain.com/morryde-tailgate-reinforcement-kit-9706.html

The Exogate is considerably more expensive, but the MORryde unit isn't in stock. I need one of these, and I'm trying to figure out if there's any difference other than price?

Also, if anyone knows of someplace that has a MORryde unit in stock, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Looks like they are the same. MORryde's website mentions GR8Tops sells them. I guess they just rebrand them as "Exogate" and charge a lot more.

I just wish someone had one in stock! Ugh

They are essentially the same thing, but there were multiple hinge designs, per the designer Jeff Scherb. I would hold out for extreme terrain to get new inventory and then jump on that price, with the forum discount and free shipping you are saving a $100 over buying from their other vendors. I bought mine from Extreme Terrain and will confirm which hinge I have when I get home. I also have a gr8tops hardtop and still chose to purchase from Extreme Terrain.

You can get the new design Exogate (with the wide-swing hinges) now from MORyde (http://www.morryde.com/products/190...-accessories?filter%5B%5D=all&filter%5B%5D=15), but it's also in the hands of some retailers like Gr8Tops:http://gr8tops.com/shop/jeepmodels/wrangler-lj-2/tj-lj-exogate. The wide-swing hinges are also direct replacements for the factory hinges even without an Exogate, and those are available directly from MORryde (http://www.morryde.com/products/189...-accessories?filter%5B%5D=all&filter%5B%5D=15).

Gr8Tops doesn't list the Rotopax carrier or the other accessories like the HiLift carrier (yet), but those are also available from MORryde, MORryde sent me a production version to test and I just got around to installing it on Saturday

Try calling keystone as they are an authorized reseller but I could not find their online store, so maybe they have one lying around.

Thanks for all this info! Do you think it's okay to get just the hinges, or do I want the tailgate reinforcement kit complete with the hinges? I'm running a 35" spare for what it's worth.

I got mine from extreme terrain with the above discounts. When I first received it it was missing a critical bit (the huge metal plate that goes by the tailgate) so took a long time to get all the parts I needed. MORryde specifically sent out the replacement.

From what I’ve read (which could be completely wrong) gr8tops bought the plans and had exclusitivity at first and branded it as exogate. Once that was over the person who originally designed it under MORryde sold it to other outlets. Note in this picture ignore how the additional spacers are installed, ones upside down :p. I need to get the rotopax carrier sometime.

I cannot give you a truthful answer on that as I dont know if the stock carrier can handle 35" inch tires. If others report no issues with 35" tires on a stock carrier then I think it is safe to assume the hinges are all you need. I bought the entire kit as I just didn't know, plus with the tailgate being converted to a barn door it adds more weight, so better safe than sorry for my particular case.

Based on what I know of you through this forum I would guess you want the entire kit.

Yeah I would get the whole kit, it hooks into the rollbar so would distributes the weight better. @Alex01 told me how he cracked his tub on his YJ with an oversized spare.

Blaine had mentioned at one point that he ran a 35" tire for years and years on the stock tailgate and never had any issues with the hinges or anything. He had said that the reason people have issues isn't the hinges or the tailgate, it's the aftermarket tire not being pushed close enough to the snubbers, and therefore being rattled around when going over rough terrain, which causes the hinges to wear.

That's not to say the Exogate isn't a good idea, epecially given the size and weight of some of these aftermarket wheels and tires. I'll probably just get the entire kit, looks like I'll likely just have to wait until they get more in stock at Extreme Terrain.

Wow, that's nuts! I guess in a way, now I understand why some people want to separate the spare tire from the tailgate entirely and mount it on a swing away tire carrier mounted to a bumper.

Great customer service for sure from MORryde.

Jeff Scherb is a mad genius when designing this stuff.

Which makes complete sense why Jeff and MORryde came up with their solution. Jeff's tailgate is a barn door, so a swingaway carrier is a PITA when you need to open the tailgate.

Have you ever seen his trailer, by Dinoot? They are in Salem.

I bought mine from Morris 4x4.

It doesn't appear they sell it.

Great customer service for sure from MORryde.

Great customer service is a must, so that's good to hear.

As for his trailer, I've never seen it at all. Hell, I didn't even know they were in Salem!
