My Review of the Vanco 16" Big Brake Kit

I'm more worried about the brakes getting hot and causing brake fade when in the mountains than what size tires it can lock up.
Alright, we have a race Cherokee we do testing on that has never had brake fade on road courses. He has related many times that he is able to outdrive the other cars on the course because he can out brake them going into the corners. Does that help?

Yes, after I looked back to see what size brakes he runs.

We have our 16" kit as it comes off the shelf on a Cherokee with an LS motor in it and to date, he out brakes every one he races against

I'm also questioning whether I can make myself stay with 35" tires so I figure if I pay a little extra now I'm set.

There’s also the option of hydroboost... it is much more powerful than vacuum boosted brakes. If you’re installing ram assist steering you‘ll already have the upgraded pump to run it.

There is a challenge of finding enough flow to keep all that stuff happy.

How is the fit and what are the rims?
Can’t fit a stick on wheel weight between the wheel and the caliper.

You seem set on the 17" BBK even though you probably don't need larger than 16", but to allay your fears regarding brake fade:

I run the Black Magic/Vanco 16" BBK on my LJ with 35" tires. [4.0, 42RLE, Rubi-Crawler, NV241OR, Dana 44 axles, 5.38 gears.] My jeep is not exactly svelte, weighing in at 4,880 lbs. empty and 5,340 lbs. with hardtop and fully loaded with a week's worth of gear, tools, food and water, extra gas, etc.

Since installing my 16" BBK and bedding in the pads I have always been able to stop exactly where I intended to stop regardless of whether it has been an easy stop or a panic stop. That means every single time, no matter where and no matter what conditions.

I have never experienced brake fade with my 16" BBK - not after hours of spirited driving on twisty mountain roads and not on long steep downhill grades towing a trailer.

I was always conscious of the braking when the brakes on my LJ were stock. The Vanco 16" BBK is good enough with 35" tires that thoughts about braking no longer have to rise above the subconscious.

Don't make the mistake I did and get a 17" Vanco BBK for 35" tires.

Blaine will tell you how he feels about that (y)

I chose to go with the Super 16 big brake kit, which is a smaller diameter version of the 17" kit. I am satisfied with it's performance. I would like a little more rear bias, but it's not something I'm concerned with.

You can also run a big brake kit with non-BMB pads, so you won't get as big of a performance boost but still get the extra cooling power of the larger rotors. I ran the Super 16 on Posi-Quiet pads (and even on BMB pads for a short time) on 31" tires before I got my 35s.

Not anymore.

That's great to hear. Now I'm just debating whether I want the regular 16" or the Super 16" just in case I decide to be stupid and go to 37" tires.

Yeah, that's how I am right now. I'm outright refusing to take it into the mountains, no matter how much my wife requests we go, until I get the upgraded brakes on there.
