I'd never buy any Jeep sight unseen, especially from a rust-belt state. They can't take pictures of inside the frame for you.

Looks like rust flaking between the skid plate and frame from what i see. Price is probably discounted because of rust. More pics of the frame and undercarriage would be good. It could be a basketcase.

We made the purchase easy… purchased the Jeep new in 2005 with <10 miles, and still own it.

This is the area that concerns me.it means the frame is rotting here.those bolts will be very hard to get out so the drivetrain can be serviced. Sooner or later it rots so bad the whole thing falls out on the highway!

I’d pass unless the price of purchase is understood only to be the start! I use to live in the salt belt and it took me 6 months to find a TJ without frame rot. 10K for a Rubicon is way too cheap. Anytime I see that fake plastic tread plate bolted to a body panel makes you wonder what’s being covered up.

That "fake plastic tread plate" is actually a steel "slider" that came as a factory standard on Rubicons.

To OP (or anyone else interested), that really doesn't look terrible. If you are interested in taking on a bit of a project, I'd bet it can be saved. Where the sliders are bolted on to the torque boxes will be an issue and the frame doesn't look too bad...but you'd want to inspect the inside. The rest of the seams on the tub look clean (which you have to watch because once the rust starts there, its nearly impossible to stop). But, you're going to fight the control arm bolts, upper shock bolts, etc.

Not really. I paid less than $10,000 for mine.........twice ($9,500 and $9,000).
