Need New TJ Keys

The local locksmith was able to cut and program an Ilco key to the Jeep today. Better still, he was also able to program the Mopar key the dealer cut but failed to get working. The silver living to visiting the dealer was getting a key cut fresh from the factory code rather than copying one of my existing keys.

I've said this many times, one man's trash is another man's treasure. Your ever so slight peace of mind is my extremely grateful peace of mind. We had our 04 pushed down to the end of the street, ignition jacked, and started enough times to brick the PCM which is how we discovered it the next morning. Living a scant few miles north of the Mexico border leads me to believe that without that "ever so slight" theft deterrent we would be minus a TJ with about 6000 miles on it at the time and it would have never been seen north of the border again.

You aren't going to get it without a tow truck, that's good enough for something "ever so slight".
I owned a nice 2005 King Ranch 4X4 diesel truck that made its way to Mexico a few years back, probable hauling cattle in the bed now.

How do you know if you have a theft deterrent system? I drive an 03 and was only given one key that likely came from Walmart. Is getting one from the Jeep dealer worth it? From what I read, it’s $75 for a degree of anti theft?
