Guys I need some help with my tranny! I searched in the threads and I was not able to find an answer or the right thread. So I Have 2001 TJ, 106k, 4.0 with the 3 speed auto trans. 32hr, dana 44 rear, dana 35 front, 3.73 gears, 4" lift on 33x12.5 / R15. when I first got the jeep the transmission had a winding sound when I first to off as I picked up a little speed the sound would go away. and my gas mileage was horrible around 12 mpg. I had the jeep lifted 4" and I put 33's on. The jeep started down shifting and high revving very hard on the freeway when every I stepped on the gas every so softly or when I came up on on a small incline as well not wanting to shift into 3rd gear. I would have to manually shift into second and then up shift in to drive to get the trans to shift in to 3rd gear. I did s service on the fluid both tranny and transfer case. the Fluid was very bad like it had never been changed. there was a lot of that metal like sludge in the pan as well as some small metal shavings. no big shavings or metal chunks. I cleaned every thing replace fluid, gasket and filter all with mopar parts and fluid. I put it back on and ran it. I went trough all the steps, torque specs I even used a little of that mopar tranny rtv that Gerry recommends and did all the steps to fill the fluid up to the right level. it ran well but it started to leak at the gasket after a day. I Order the mopar deep pan with the drain plug it came with a new mopar gasket and filter i used all the new parts including the filter riser adaptor. I re did very thing, only this time I did not use RTV just the gasket. id did not leak.
Now here's where the problem became bigger. after taking out for the first time after I made sure there were no leeks the first run it felt as if there was not torque from the motor it took off but very weak not quite slipping but more like very little power. I came back it was low on fluid I put in about a 1/3 quart and i went out again, now i had much more torque but the tranny would not shift in to 3rd gear. I parked it left alone. the next day i left it running in idle for about 30 min fluid was low again, I added another 1/3 of a quart and went out again. it was now shifting in the 3rd but the shift were not as smooth. I took it home check the fluid it was low again i added another 1/3 of a quart again. I went out again and now it was shifting great smooth and 3rd gear was shifting at lower RPM's I was very happy BUT on the way home the check engine light came on. all was normal no issues just the light. I parked it went to work. two days later i started it idle it for another 30 min. checked the fluid it was low again added another 1/3 of a quart i went to autozone to get the OBD 2 code read and it came up code P0740 TCC out of range. The drive to the autozone is about 4 miles from my house on the way up it shifted great nice and smooth into 3rd. on the way back i hooped on the freeway and i hit the gas to get up to speed and it would not shift into 3rd again I pulled over started from dead stop try to manually shifted and no dice, it would not shift into 3rd. I parked it and left it alone to research and try to gain some wisdom from you guys on this issue.
Again there are a lot threads out there on this and other forums about this issue. but not one that meets all my tranny's symptoms. so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to all in advance. and sorry for the long a$# post I just wanted to give all the possible info
