This forum has already saved me quite a bit of money on labor and issue identification, so why not join and become a supporting member!
Snagged this Florida/Georgia local 2006 Rubicon 6 spd w/138k miles a few weeks back and I’ve been wrenching on it since to get some various maintenance items sorted. Can’t say I appreciate some of the things the prior owner lied to me about but I’m grateful the items I could inspect during the pre purchase dance checked out great (no rust or frame issues, clean title, etc).
The catalyst code popped on my drive back home, seller claimed he had no clue about it. So I’ve replaced the pre cats and main cat with the flowmaster unit and replaced the factory beat muffler with the Dynomax turbo cat back. I think I might be in the clear, still driving it to get through a full cycle.
Threw the spare JL Rubi wheel with new tire on it, and bought 3 other new BFG AT’s on it. Both front fenders were a little smooshed so I hammered them back out, shaped them, and replaced the flares with some cheapo new replacements from Crown. I did as much paint correction as I felt like doing and was pleased with how much oxidation I could get rid of. It’s going to be a hunting/trail/around town 2nd vehicle to relieve my 2021 TRD Tundra from those duties.
I also proactively replaced the OPDA since the stock unit was OEM and looked old. Glad I did, the gear was starting to get chewed up.
Next up on the to do list is address the valve cover leak, troubleshoot the AC (I’m pretty sure the control unit is done), fresh Rotella 10w30, and bed line the flares and bumpers.
I negotiated this Jeep down to 9k so I feel like I got a pretty good deal for what it is, especially because the interior is really clean. I also like the khaki hardtop. With my experience working on and rebuilding a lot of cars since I was 14 I’m really enjoying how easy this TJ is to work on.
Sorry for my long winded intro! Can’t wait to contribute to more areas of the forum soon
