I am new to this site so I will apologize now for all the silly questions I am going to be asking I have a few jeeps 2 tj's I will include pictures if I figure out how.
The green one is a 97 stock with 31's
Other is 01 with 2" spacers and 33's
I want to start building the 97 so I will be looking for lots of advice. 4" lift on 35's

I don't plan to do anything to the 01 it has the 2.5 and I don't want to put any money in to it.
The 97 has the 4.0 so I will put a little money in to it so we can play around on the mountains here in central pa.

Welcome to the forum! Quick question on the '97 you want to run 35's on. Do you know if its rear axle is a Dana 35 or a Dana 44? Only the stronger/optional Dana 44 is worthy of holding up to a tire as big as a 35.

The quickest way to tell is the Dana 35 has a plastic snap-in cover in the lube fill hole on its oval differential cover, the Dana 44 has a threaded steel plug with a square 3/8" drive recess in it in the more stop sign shaped differential cover.

Dana 35 is not a bad thing. It allows you to regear when you switch to a Dana 44

No, there is no improved housing for the Dana 35 to my knowledge.

If you went with a Dana 44 rear, you'd need the entire axle assembly.

Am I understanding it right I can't put 35" tires on if I reuse the Dana 35?

Sure you can, but it is just simply a weaker axle assy. You can upgrade them with a super 35 kit and stronger axle assemblies, but you'd be better off finding a Dana 44 assembly and put the $$$ into that assy. It's stronger, bolts right up with no major modifications, and has more aftermarket support.

As @mrblaine has showed me, you can indeed run 35" tires on a Dana 35 without any issues. Of course, you'll have to throw a lot of money at it and build it up, but it is possible!
