I never understood the guys I grew up with that were fans of teams from other cities, we had one guy that ran around all year with Cowboy jerseys on, also had helmets & posters & all the other bullshit, Christ was he annoying – we were always like shut the fuck up Frank, you’re a short, dark, goofy, hairy, son of all Italian immigrants from Philly, you’re not a cowboy

Regarding the Cowboys, I'll say this. I grew up in upstate NY where i'm from. Buffalo is the closest NFL city but as far as NY teams go, I always favored the Jets only because it had an airplane name and I was a kid obsessed with space and aviation. I did have an OJ jersey I wore when it came time to rough-house the neighbor kids. My Dad got me to like the Cowboys when Landry, Staubach, Dorsett, etc etc were all playing. He would always say, now that's a good football team. Like a good military unit, disciplined, well trained and led by a damn good commander.
Jerry came along and tarnished all of that with his antics although Jimmy made them fun to watch.

Used to follow college quite a bit.
Never an NFL team fan but used to follow players I liked starting with Bo Jackson.
Now, I’d watch the Super Bowl and that’s it.

As far as the NFL goes, 'Just win, baby'...we're a Raiders household. And, living in AZ, I do follow and pull for the Cardinals. However; having played football in college, I much prefer the college game over the NFL. The traditions, passion of the players, histories of the programs and relationships between the student/fans and the programs all make for an awesome experience and setting.
And as a bonus, our daughter chose to attend Boise State on a marching band scholarship, so we make a couple of trips to Boise each season to see her perform at home games as well as whichever bowl game they wind up in.

I lived in KC for almost a decade so I was a Royals, Chiefs fan. Simply because I got to go to some of the games when vendors paid for my tickets, drove me there, and bought me food. Usually the Royals did good until the All Star Break then totally collapsed, and the Chiefs did okay or great then lost in the first round of the playoffs.
Both teams have done better recently. I lived in KC when Nebraska won 3 national Championships and almost a 4th in the 90s. Now they aren't even playing after selling out since 1962. I watched 15-20 minutes of the Chiefs game and about 30 minutes of 3 college games Saturday before I went and mowed the yard. There's definitely less motivation to watch other teams play. I don't watch basketball except for the NCAA tournament because I usually have $1 riding on the office pool. There's zero reason now.
Women's volleyball was doing really well in the Big10, but they cancelled that too. Last year 5 of the top ten each week were out of the conference. Between the Pac12 and Big10 I think they've had all the championships in the last 10 years. Nebraska has played for or won the national championship 6 times in that period and had their highest rated recruiting class in history. Stupid conference flushed about $1 billion in revenue down the crapper.

Grew up a broncos fan. For ncaa, I support the University of Wyoming and home state. Though they've never been any good. They've produced a few NFL players over the years though
Been a Packers fan since I was 8 (1970) even though I've lived in Washington state most of my life. Didn't jump ship when the Seahawks came along and never will. Go Pack! Liked Notre Dame as a kid but became a Ducks fan when my daughter went to UO! My son went to Washington state so now its a little tense on game day.
Life long Steelers fan here as well, born in Western PA! Here We Go Steelers!
Grew up a Browns fan.....converted to a Steelers fan when I was 13/14. Partly in spite of my father who made me a Browns fan.
Other reasons are : Legendary coach Dick LeBeau is from my hometown. And a cousin of my dad was Big Ben’s OC at Miami (I used to get free tickets to his games). He was drafted and I immediately became a fan.
