That being said it does sound more like a bearing issue than a gear issue. If you haven’t already ordered one, I’d suggest using a Lubelocker gasket (with no RTV)… Reusable and very good seal. What you could do if very careful is to lift the rear up on jack stands and have someone press the gas to speed it up with a mechanics stethoscope… move it to each bearing location to see which is loudest and you should be able to pinpoint you problem child.
And for Gods sake if you do the steps above, chalk both the front wheels front and back! Also I’m not suggesting its the safest thing in the world to do, nor am I taking responsibility for any accident lol
