If you go over your center hub you have the possibility of getting water in you front or rear axle. It really depends on what shape your seals are in. You could get it in the dif.

If the diff seals are not on good shape chances are that fluid will be leaking out too and I bet this will be corrected quick.

Im not saying that you will get it in there. But it is possible. I know a few people who change gear oil if the run deep. But i know others that don't. There is no consensus. For me it doesn't cost that much for piece of mind. I would do it all the time in my truck.

Agree, it doesn't cost that much to have piece of mind, but when you does it twice and no water or foreign material is found make no too much sense to keep worring about it. At least for me.

I do think that a good tip for the OP @Xposure will be to check the welfare of the breathers before goes out to his Trail ride. No take too long and is very simple.

Are you referring to the vents for the transmission and differentials?

So I just brought home my first Jeep! Super excited for me and my son to do some trails and camping. This is all new to me. Does anyone have some tips for off-road trips? Do you bring any kind of specific supplies with you? Do you have tips relative to driving off-road like techniques if you seem to be getting stuck? I was trying to decide between soft top up or down...I’d love it down but thought it may sling stuff all into the Jeep.

Oh also, we won’t be doing anything crazy like trying to do some major rocks or mud. It’s going to be trails which may have some rocks to get around but nothing major.

Jeep is I6, 32rh, 4” cheapo lift, 33” tires, Ford 8.8 rear and high pinion Dana 30 front, 4.56 gears. And maybe most importantly a winch lol

Even as a teenager, I had to think, to plan ahead with little things like being in four wheel drive before it was needed, being in the right gear and never going to fast.

I have been headlights deep on several occasions and have never had water in any of my vital fluids. Stock breathers, stock locations. I've got an 05 wrangler, the front diff breather is next to the top of the radiator, the transmission and transfer case one is up on the firewall and the rear diff one is up by the fuel filler.
