ive only 42,000 on my 05 "X" automatic with a 4.0L in it

my next purchase was going to be the WranglerFix brain box
then I got reading about the OPDA nightmares so im figuring to do that also but as im broke :( (xmass and all that goes with it)
I need to do this one step/purchase at a time as in one to two months apart

what one should i do First?
1-WranglerFix ?
2-OPDA

and what OPDA to get its a nightmare in my brain reading about it all on here, Mechanically ive no problem but cant wrap my short-buss brain around electronic stuff
then reading about a special "unit-scanner" to plug into the jeep to "CLEAR and RESET the LEARNING" OMG --what happened to doing the normal reset?

1-Crown ?
2-Dorman ?

thanks
John

WranglerFix has nothing to do with the OPDA.

The OPDA is a wear-and-tear replacement item just like anything else on your engine. The Crown OPDA supposed to address the design failures with the factory OPDA. How much better it is is hard to say, but it ought to last you at least 100k miles with regular maintenance.

I have a WranglerFix PCM in my 2005 (manual). Works great. Definitely recommended.

That said, are you having code issues? If not, then there is not yet a need for a PCM. Yes you'll need one eventually but at this point, unless you are having issues, you don't need one.

The OPDA is something you'll need eventually. I am pretty sure mine was original at 162k miles (although maybe a previous owner replaced it....I don't know). I wasn't having issues with it but for $100 ish, it was worth it to replace it. Definitely buy the Crown unit.

If I was in your place, if you aren't having PCM issues, don't replace it at this time. I would go ahead and proactively replace the OPDA. If you have money to burn, sure you can proactively replace the PCM but since you don't, don't stress it.

I'd pull and inspect the OPDA first. If it seizes, you lose oil pressure. I would replace it just for piece of mind My Dorman has been in there for 165K mi with no issues. You don't have to have the tool to relearn the cam/crank sensors. It will relearn with a battery disconnect. If you are out of tolerance, it will throw a code and you will have to adjust the OPDA and try again.

The PCM will let you know when it's going, it throws codes, the vehicle may glitch off while driving, etc.

My 2006 automatic was having hard shifts from 1st to 2nd. No codes. New "Tuned" Wranglerfix PCM fixed that but was expensive. If you don't have PCM "fixable" problems than go for the OPDA for $120. There are a lot of other things you can spend money on. You'll be amazed for sure...

If neither is broken, there is nothing you need to do right now so it doesn't matter which part you order first.

I have a Crown OPDA on my parts shelf. It has been there for years and can stay there until the factory part fails, if it ever does. I purchased it to ensure availability. Anyone who has restored a vintage vehicle and needed an essential part designated as NLA (no longer available) will understand.

I have a WranglerFix PCM with performance tune installed. The OEM PCM is on my parts shelf as a spare. There is nothing wrong with my factory PCM; I installed the WranglerFix unit as a preventative measure and for the performance upgrade.
