"Pacing myself" build

Do you have a reason to believe it is the axle shafts or are you buying them just to be safe?

I don’t remember, have you replaced the rear bearings? I’d expect noise more than vibes unless the press was bad, but you’re into a hell hole of unknown unfortunately :/

I do not, other than thinking it has to be related to the rear end in some fashion. I guess I just like throwing money at this turd! I'm focused on rolling mass, and the axle shafts are spinning.

I replaced the right rear axle bearing/seal when I re-geared cause the seal was leaking. Think I will pull the shafts and run it tomorrow. If I pull the shafts I might as well install the one's I got from Alex.

@Chris can we get a 🤞reaction? That seems appropriate here

I guess you'll be able to "send it" up any obstacle lol.

Since I have my jeep apart, in preperation for the new skid next week, I pulled the rear shaft. I have no more than a piece of paper thickness worth of play in the rear input shaft of the t-case.

I measured today, and have less than 0.020" of out play on the yoke, so I don't think the t-case is the issue. I could be wrong. I figure if I'm going to pull the rear shafts, I might as well change them to see what happens.

Rabbit hole again ..

Did you see that video with the hose clamps?

What's best way to upload video? I tried Vimeo, but the file is too large.

I first put the jeep on jack stands and got my butt dyno baseline vibes.
I then pulled the wheels and ran it again. Same results.
I pulled the rotors, axle shafts and ran it again. Same results.
Time to pull the diff cover.

Ran a tooth pattern.

Spun it 180* and ran a pattern.

Got some weird results on the second pattern check at the 180* mark. At this point I had the axle shafts out and was doing my best to put some pressure on the ring gear with my hand as I turned the rear ds, so that may or may not have something to do, or, my ring gear is warped.

Next, I checked back lash.

Yep, you saw it. 0.14 back lash. I flip the tool around to the top and measured again to be sure and got .015. Specified range is supposed to be 0.06 - 0.10.

So basically, the gear setup is fubared. Not sure how that causes the vibes, so I'll have to leave that to someone that knows way more than me about gears.

Put it all back together, slapped some fresh gear oil in, put my tail between my legs and drove home in disappointment.
