"Pacing myself" build

Put the jeep's butt on jack stands and ran it thru the gears. Seems the latest pinion angle adjustments helped a bit. It seems a bit smoother. Invited my supervisor to hop in so he could here it. He agreed, as he rode in it prior and could feel the vibes. He looked at me and said "is that your gears making all that noise?" Yup! I'm not crazy man!
Silly question but, did they put any diff fluid in it?

Geez man. You can't catch a break. Honestly, as many times as you've changed things, I think you need to go back to square one and use process of elimination. You know it currently has vibs. So, something is causing it. The what is TBD.

Ignore the noise for now. Get some app for measuring vibrations. Doesn't have to be fancy, but it does need to be repeatable. Go for a drive to get a baseline. Then pull the rear DS. Go for a drive. Vibs better or worse compared to baseline? You need the objectivity of measurement. If better, than you reasonably eliminate the front axle and driveshaft. If the same or worse, you can reasonably eliminate the rear axle and driveshaft.

Focus on the area that is giving vibs...front or rear. Different DS. Better or worse? If its better than your driveshaft is suspect. If same or worse, eliminate DS as contributor.

It SUCKS to do. Time consuming and where do you get all the parts? Plus there is always the possibility of introducing variation if the swapped component is not "known good" This method will work for you if you only have a single component driving the vibrations. If you have an interaction (two or more components working together) then you need a fairly robust measurement system to ferret out the details.

I wish I was closer...It would be a fun 6 sigma project!

Funny you mention that. I thought the same thing when it took them 4 hours longer than they estimated. I got close to 300 miles on it. Do you think the gearset would survive that with no lube?

Doubtful if it was empty but likely if partially filled.

I remember you adjusted the front, did you adjust the rear angle as well? What was it before?

I adjusted the rear first. It was at dead 0* with the ds, so I adjusted it to 1* lower than the ds. For the front, pinion was 1.4* lower, so I moved it up to 1* higher than the ds. Still seems to drive ok even though caster is lower than it should be. It's pretty good up to 65mph now, but any faster and you start to feel it.

65 is fast enough for you. As you get older your reaction time is slowing down. Be safe! :)
 
Tinkered with the POS for a couple hours before it got too hot. Made some more pinion adjustments, but I didn't have my digital angle finder, so broke out old faithful Ace Hardware needle finder. Ended up with the rear 1.5* higher than ds. Did some rear up on jack stands testing with some improvement. Pretty sure I'm going to have to drop the t-case skid some to get the operating ds angle under 15*.

1.5 higher?
 
Here's my thinking. Raising the pinion angle decreases the ds operating angle. This is my theory as to why I think the next step, after sorting out the re-gear fiasco, is to lower the t-case skid.

My pinion angles are far from exact. I can easily see how far the angle is off just visually. I can run to about 80 without vibrations. Your Jeep is truly a whiner. Extremely confusing.

It's been a bioch from day 1. Just the OME 2.5" lift sent it into a temper tantrum in which I had to lower the t-case 0.75".
 
I almost joined the lose another angle finder club while testing angles 🤣

Luckily I heard it smash into the tub.
