Piss & Moan Table

Many years later, my uncle bought a Harley, and he told Gramma that if she'd buy him a leather jacket, he'd build her a house. She did, and so, he did. A nice two-story, three-bedroom place. For years he would remark how that was the world's most expensive leather jacket. 🥲

*Sorry...just brought back a lot of memories.

Do you know anything about the Harley or where it ended up?

And what about that expensive jacket???

Man, dont leave us hanging like that!?

Yes our two stories are anecdotal, but many dieticians will actually back up what I am describing. Cutting out all the artificial fillers, starches, preservatives, etc., etc., makes for a much healthier and happier body. The kidneys especially. That doesn't mean cutting carbs or rejecting certain types of food, just sourcing those foods from 100% natural ingredients.

completely agree, I'm a huge proponent of a whole food diet which by definition eliminates all that added bs, & commercial bread is not a whole food for sure. I've found eating processed foods to be hard to completely cut out, even some of the best things are at least minimally processed, for example one of my go-to breakfasts is organic sprouted rolled oats, & once that oat is rolled, or cut, it's 'processed'. Same for anything utilizing even the best flour... my bread is a mixture of organic whole wheat & bread flours, and water, processed for sure but it weeds out all the garbage found in the store bought bread.

The problem I'd have with having homemade bread around all the time is that I'd probably eat a loaf a day.

yea, all the best food in the world can't solve the problem of portion control, that part is always up to us.

One way I avoid that is slicing & freezing the individual pieces as soon as it cools, out of sight out of mind... I then yank out a piece every day. I however ALWAYS lop off the end first & wolf it down with butter, man there is nothing better than the freshest bread

I would eat more than a loaf a day. I have been putting off getting into sour dough bread making as I would consume a ton of it. Being a borderline, out of control type 2 does not help. Although seeing my FIL in the hospital with sores not healing and diabetic neuropathy for the last month is having an effect on my wife and myself....it is gym time and control our eating. MY FIL is also a type 2 on 3 oral meds, insulin shots and an inhaler before every meal. We just went through his cc bill from last month.....$2K worth of bagels, Dunkin Donuts, burger king, chilies, chickfila, pizza, Chinese buffets visits. He eats out 3 times a day, he is 87 and might not make 88, if he does he might be without a foot or two!

He still had the Harley and the jacket as of thirty years ago, but that’s the last time I’ve heard anything about it. I guess he’s living in Oregon, now.

Where I grew up in Iowa we had well water. It was a 25’ deep sand point that produced the best water I’ve ever had.

Friends used to ask me to bring an extra water jug for them when I played baseball.

Then rural water came through and we hooked up and it was never the same.

We actually have a natural spring right off of I-5 just south of us. People line up with huge bottles and jugs to fill up. Fortunately, it’s available to the public 24/7, so a midnight fill-up is always possible (less people). The water gets tested on a regular basis for impurities, and tastes great. I’ll bet @reddvltj knows the place I’m talking about. 😉

I'm sure it hasn't helped, but the blubberization of America was well underway before this now infamous moment in 2007; and I apologize in advance if this thumbnail gives @Zorba a chubber:

Oh how well I remember this. At the time, I didn't think all that much of it - I didn't need it and it was way too expensive - both of which are still true to this day. So I promptly ignored the thing and didn't think anything more of it for almost 10 years.

"Desktop Class Software?" Even to this day that hasn't happened - it can't. The tiny screen and Jobs's oh so wonderful touch interface makes that impossible. The power of OS X had to be dumbed down to work in this crippled environment and it rapidly forked away into its own thing - by necessity. No mouse, no keyboard, tiny screen equals a not so optimal situation. I myself once created a user interface consisting of a 20 key keypad and two hexadecimal displays. Did it work? Yes it did, quite well if I say so myself. However, when it came time to do something "real", it fell short. It was crippled for real world usage - it was a toy. A training toy, but a toy all the same. Running WordStar on it would be completely impossible as a result. The same applies to this gadget as well.

Made with cane sugar, less carbonation. You can buy it here in 12oz glass (bottled in Mexico) and 8oz ponies (bottled in the US). They are more expensive but IF I feel like having a "coke", this is what I buy. Glass > plastic, tastes better, not as bad for you. I go for the 8oz six pack, more servings and smaller serving size so not as bad of a nutritional hit. I treat it like I would a small bit of ice cream.

If you wait until Passover, (April 21 this year) you can find it in two liters, usually starting a few weeks in advance, since while Coke is Kosher year round, corn syrup is not kosher for Passover (long story) so most major grocery stores with a decent sized Jewish population will have it special in stock.

Be thankful , CO would likely shut it down because they couldn't collect permit "fees" from anyone . I love the party in control of CO right now .

On the last Sunday of every month I go off script & have pancakes with either bacon, scrapple, pork roll, sausage or the like. With all the talk of bread above, I decided to swap in French toast today instead, made with my homemade poppy seed sourdough along with cherry smoked bacon & vanilla infused maple syrup all washed down with a cup of Jamaican Mountain Peak java. Lord this was good, and with the addition of the two eggs used to make the French toast, actually had a decent bit of protein too, I may be making this change more frequently going forward.
