Guys,

I installed new Flowmaster Direct Fit Catalytic Converter and four new NTK oxygen sensors.
Still keep getting PO133 code. I reset it few times and it comes back after a day or two.

I did a visual inspection and did not see any cracks in vacuum lines.

Do you have any idea what may be causing this issue.

Thank you,
Joe Fishfull

I seem to recall there being a TSB about the oxygen sensors never being ready. There was a PDM wiring splice fix for it. Perhaps that's related?

Can you guys point me to TSB related to this issue.

Thank you,
Joe Fishfull

What year is your TJ?

I think @Steel City 06 was referring to this tsb...

I don't this is going to help with your P0133 code though. P0133 bank 1 sensor 1 slow to respond.
Being that you had the code previous to replacing the components, I would check the wiring harness going to the O2. I would also check the connector for corrosion or a spread terminal.

Willambmac. Thank you very much. I will check it out. O2 sensors had new wires maybe bad harness. Its a 2005 unlimited with ~214,000 miles on it

05 and 06 have an issue where the PCM will not show as ready for emissions testing. Does not affect running at all, but it you have to do emissions testing where you live, they won't test it when it doesn't show ready.

05 4.0 with 177k miles, same issue. p0133 and p0153. just ordered a new full cat and will be replacing all four ngks, should have results in about two weeks. Haven’t had any driving issues or anything either. Will inspect the wiring harness of the O2 sensors this afternoon, but regardless the cats on mine are about due. Commenting to follow

Ascho7 good luck. My check engine light stayed off for about a tank of gas. Fingers crossed! Have not inspected the lines yet. Its on the list.

Installed another new o2 sensor this mourning hoping that will fix the issue. Hoping that original I installed was bad out of the box. Have you guys had issues with NTK O2 sensors being bad out of the box?

If code comes back probably have bad harness.

The TSB issue is not your problem. It doesn’t result in any DTCs being thrown. It simply prevents the O2 Heater Monitor from promoting to Ready status. The only issues with that are when you look at the readiness monitors with a scanner, that one shows as incomplete. Since you don’t have emissions testing, no one will ever know that the monitor is in incomplete status.

That being said, I know that O2 sensor DTCs being thrown is a known PCM issue with the NGC PCMs used in 2005 and 2006. Paging @Wranglerfix - Mark?

@fishfullthinking It sounds like the pcm could be the culprit. How is the shifting in the morning and idle when hot? I am in Davie if you want to bring the pcm by we can run it in our Jeep for you to confirm.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

Thank you. I got check engine light this mourning with another o2 sensor so it is not the sensor. Very annoying. I don't see any symptoms as far as shifting or idle. All seems to be good.

What is the name of your shop? I may have to swing by in the next few months.

Thank you,

So I have an issue with my TJ 2005 that I have been trying to troubleshoot. Looking for some advice.

Have owned my 2005 a few years now, at some point it began as CEL but it would stay lit for a while then it would cure itself and I just got used to it but now the CEL is permanently on and if I clear the error codes with my trusty ODBD-II scanner, then start the Jeep they immediately comes back.

Issure reported is all four O2 sensors report low O2 sensor heater. I have had the sensors checked out and they seem good. I tested also on Bank 2 sensor 1 as an example and the resistance on the heater is in range. Also the two white wires connected to the heater check out - good ground on one side, good connectivity back to Connector 2.

So here is what I know:

O2 sensor heaters all 4 throwing errors immediately on starting the Jeep
O2 sensor readings themselves show 1v or so, seems consistent
Rsistance of O2 bank 2 sensor 1 heater is 6 ohms
Measured voltage on the heater pin when engine started is 14v but very variable, drops down, increases again. Not steady
Attached a lightbulb on the cnnector heater pins and cold start, it was on/off variable flashing
**Interesting - I shut off the key, retried and the bulb this time stayed constant on - and the CEL light went off!!
Drove around for maybe 30 minutes and CEL light was off then CEL came back on, same error all 4 sensor heaters
Tried poking/shaking all the splices I can see and did not change the voltages measured or the behavior
Ground seems good since all other sensors/PCM functions appear to be working

It feels like maybe the PCM is the issue but just not sure, since the PCM seems to be performihg all other essential functions just fine yet all four O2 sensor heaters continue to throw the same error and the CEL remains on.

Looking for some advice on what to test next.

Thanks!

Some more followup, symptom is that all 4 x O2 sensor heaters are throwing codes Low and CEL comes on immediately on starting, sometimes the DTC's are listed twice (8 DTCs) most times 4 DTCs.

Interesting discovery today, I am using a lightbulb and a couple of alligator clips/leads and connecting it to the O2 sensor Bank 2 sensor 1. This morning I connected the bulb, started the Jeep (it was a cold start, Jeep had been sitting outside all night). I had cleared the DTC codes yesterday, so no codes to display on the OBD-II.

Jeep started and the lightbulb I had connected to the two white wires came on steady and bright. No variance in the brightness, so am guessing that the PCM is thinking, "engine is cold, power up the O2 sensor heaters".

Checked the dashboard and CEL light is now off. So something about those steps appears to reset things.

Checked the OBD-II and now I have one DTC - Bank 2 sensor 1 now has one DTC which is "High Voltage Bank 2 sensor 1"

Yesterday I did the same and drove around and the CEL stayed off for maybe 30 minutes then came back on, same 4 DTCs as usual. Guessing maybe it checks the heaters again periodically.

Not sure what to try next. Agh.
