I'm from Germany, so I want to apologize in advance for my bad English
But now to my inquiry or story with my newly acquired Jeep Wrangler TJ 2.4 from 2005.
I bought the TJ with my son a few months ago because we wanted to get it running again together. After weeks of work, it was then rust-free again and optically and mechanically ok again. It ran and drove perfectly again, even the Prins gas system was ok.
Unfortunately, after cleaning the spark plugs, we swapped the ignition cables from 1st and 2nd, so that the engine initially ran rough and after removing the 1st spark plug, there was a short circuit and the engine stopped completely. Then the engine would not start and the engine light came on. Nothing happened after turning the ignition key. Also, the internal memory is reporting the P0688 trouble code in the odometer.
My local mechanic checked this but couldn't access the PCM even though the power supply is fine. He said it's the PCM. I then removed it and sent it to a dealer who tested the PCM for weeks and concluded that it was beyond repair.
After a long research and rummaging through various Wrangler sites, I found my way to you in the hope that you could help me.
Do you have a solution for me or can you give me a tip?
I have already sent an inquiry to wranglerfix and received an offer for a new PCM.
I have already read many positive reports here in the forum, but I am still unsure whether the device will really work or whether I will have to visit my Jeep workshop again? Also the payment processing and delivery to Germany and the customs duty is still questionable?
Do you have experience and can you tell me how expensive such a new PCM can be?
I know there are many questions I ask myself, but I would really like to successfully complete the project with my son and finally enjoy the jeep in our nature.
Unfortunately there are not many working Jeep TJs left in Germany and we would be very happy to have this car.
I hope you can give me some advice and information!
Thank you very much!
