Question about re-gearing a Dana 30 and installing a Super 35 kit with locker

I just looked. You can find the SK SSM35 shim kit on amazon for $16. I would buy that, the two bearings, and the two races there and call it done. You could even buy two shim kits just in case and still be cheaper than the $40 quadratec listed the shims for.
Man I owe you!

I have no doubts you will be 100% perfectly fine on the S35. It's not cheap overall but it sure is convenient over getting a whole different axle (if you can even find one) and building that up to do a swap with.
Yessir that's what the gurus convinced me of on this forum. This place is awesome.

Yes, you will need the LM102949 bearings and the LM102911 shims I'm pretty certain. they are the same OD as stock but a larger ID for the larger carrier journals.

What I am NOT sure about are the carrier shims needed to make that all work. Might need to call Eaton or Revolution, I never found any good info on that and I went a different route.

You will definitely need the special bearings and their corresponding races. Eaton makes all of the Dana 30/Dana 35 carrier bearing journals larger than stock. I believe the bearings you need come out of a Chevy 7.5/8.5 rear axles. Maybe you can use their shims too.

https://www.4lowparts.com/shop/Dana...-shim-kit-use-super-kits-aftermarket-lockers/does this imply that same bearing works in Dana 30 as Dana 35? I found the bearings on amazon way cheaper and already ordered the shim kit way cheaper. I'm just double checking part numbers on the bearing before I order.

Link didn't work. But yes according to all the sources you use that same bearing for the aftermarket carriers on both axles. You will not want that bearing for your stock Dana 30 though.

Yessir on the stock Dana 30, but I'm writing part numbers in my notes for the future! I'm blessed with a short term memory. gotta leave myself clues or I'm lost!! thank you I found them on amazon.

I don't blame you. If you decide to do an E locker or something like that in the Dana 30 later, you will want the LM102949 bearings (2), LM1029211 races (2), and the SK30214 shim kit. You can't use the same Dana 35 special shims on the Dana 30, which is why Yukon has the 30214 kit instead.

I have another question. Do the same outer bearings by the hubs fit the 30 spline shafts? Should I replace them with new while we are in there anyways?

Shaft size is the same as stock at that point (one of the largest parts of the shaft) so stock bearings and seals are fine. Usually they come with new bearings and seals just to freshen the axle up, so I’d use those if it were me. Those very rarely wear out though so I mean you could leave the old ones if you really wanted to but it’s so easy to change them you may as well.

ok thanks. I've never read about the outer bearings so I thought I'd ask. I'll put new ones in wether they came with or not. I got my shafts in but I haven't opened the box to see what all came with!

That's just for Dana 35. That's basically the shim kit I just gave you the link to + the two bearings and races. I think it's honestly cheaper to buy it all separate. Shims 40, bearings 12 each, races like 7 each....call it 80 vs the 121 on that one.
Update: I ordered the e-locker in feb from quadratec. I've been waiting all spring and summer. Finally cancelled and ordered from 4WheelParts and was here in a few days. Finally ordered the bearings and races you recommended on this thread somewhere lol. Shims are in, gears and axle shafts in. I think I'm ready to install! I'll update further when I can and try to post pics of my parts. Would be cool to post links but not sure I'm that computer savvy.
