Rancho RS5000X counterfeit?

Ordered the black max directly from skyjacker which came in about two days and they ride fine.

Not exactly a glowing review. I've seen more enthusiastic reviews on the RC website.

I see recommendations for Skyjacker Black Max shocks in the same class as Ranchos sometimes.
I just got a set of 4 Ranchos from Summit, myself, haven't put them on yet though

Recently purchased shocks for my TJ. The rear shocks look fine but the two front look completely different.. Left one weighs 5.6lbs and the right weighs only 4.3lbs. Also the welds and basic look are completely different. Wondering if anyone has any insight on this. Got them from rock auto. The shock on the right is the one that not only weighs less but also has some crummy looking welds and different size and color stantion. Got the shock on the right on a "closeout sale" could it be old stock or a fake?

Not counterfeit. Check the box. One is made in USA one is made in CHINA. The one with no paint on the bushing is the made in china.

stopped using rock auto here in canada a while back. i use parts avatar now. never had an issue, that being said working for a dealer i can get parts at cost from just about any one lol

Not that I can tell. I just installed 4 of them last week. 3 usa 1 China. Jeep drives fine.
I try to buy usa when I can. I was bummed when one shock was China. The China shock had better letter stampings on the body, a better paint finish, didn't over spray onto the rubber bushing, rancho sticker already installed (I throw the stickers out), and came with hardware. The usa shock was missing the nut for the top mount. Both were in sealed boxes. One had rubber dust boot installed other I had to install I forget which.

probably just older stock, but i'd return the one on the right for the dent in the body.

One of the three I received were made in China and it definitely had a different return rate when I compressed them by hand and compared side by side. Sent them all back though.

You're right, one of the boxes did say made in China which is what got me worried about it being a fake or something.
