Rear Sway Bar Nut

Hi,

I have a broken sway bar axle bracket. The nuts are not the factory welded nuts. The bolts and nuts are not factory either. Tried to fit a 18mm box wrench but can't get it past the bolt to fit in the nut.

Thought it would be an easy fix!

Any idea on what to use?

Those lines on the head scream SAE, not metric so no, an 18mm wont fit. 0 lines = junk bolts,3 lines G5, 5 lines = G8.

Jam a crowbar or something under the nut and hit the bolt with an impact wrench.
Or a hacksaw.

Cheap wrench. Grind the sides till it’ll fit in there. Or as @LONGJP2 said. Jam a crow beer hard in there.

Can you get a flare nut wrench in there?

Or a 12 point crows foot?

I think the easiest way for me would be to just cut the bolt off with a 4.5" angle grinder and cutoff wheel. Do both sides so you can move the sway bar out of the way for the top bolt.

Can you not fit an open end wrench on it?

remove the sway bar links so it drops down and you have easier access? That should allow room for an impact. "5 minute job on youtube".... 3 hours later

Thank you to all for the input!

I ended up using a channellock plier and hit it with an impact. It came out.

I was able to get the top bolt out just fine with the box wrench.

Went to Ace and bought M10x1.50x 25 and the wrench now enters smoothly for future access.
