Rust problem

my 2006 tj is rotting out everywhere. it just hit 90k miles yesterday and the fenders have been completely rotted since 70k. i live in the rust belt and it was originally a california jeep, any reason to why?

They're known for rusting, especially with the body on frame design.

The rust spreads while it sits too so it's not like the mileage really makes a difference

Thank Chrysler, jeep/ DC,fiat,stellantis or whoever for that one. They are no the only ones however,Toyota is bad as well and offered a frame replacment, but after years of surely knowing about the issue you think they could do better. I've also had several dodge trucks with no rust issues. It sucks because I sold my 99 TJ when we left NM and now were in KY, and all is see is 95% rusted junk not worth buying IMO. Bottom line like Chris said, its the treated roads that are killing it. Like Neil Yong said...rust never sleeps.

Your 2006 is more similar to how cars were built in the 60/70s/80s (CJs/YJs/TJs were all pretty much that way). cast steel.
