Seat covers - anything new?

I've read a myriad of threads. Bartac is the best. Caltrend is a very close runner up, or better, or used to be. Nothing else really comes close except factory or full custom.

I have a TJ. I have factory seats with good foam and no fabric tears. They are just really ugly. 2004 - that weird zig zag muted multicolor grey nightmare scheme.

Anyway - what is the current consensus with covers. Get Bartac and buy once/cry once? I have a line on a set of factory covers (the actual factory fabric) in very good shape from a 2006 but the switching out process seems daunting for the fist time "doer". Not sure I want to mess and not sure paying an upholstery guy to do it is better then just getting covers.

I live in So Cal if that matters in your choice of vendors or advice. I have beer if someone wants to come over and swap the covers.

I love my Bartacs but you being in automobile custom modification heaven aka SoCal...I'd most certainly be reaching out and seeing what's available locally for custom seat work.

I like my caltrends. Holding up and fitting well for the last year and cheap.they have tougher fabrics than i used that weather better if sun is an issue.

Aren't they in socal?

Go with the Bartacts and relish the durabilty, comfort and style for years to come. Going on 5 years with mine and they still look and feel like new. Add in their optional lumbar support; total game changer (at least for a guy who needs lumbar support). Seriously, the Bartacts are by far one of the best things I've done to my TJ. They get used and abused and have more than held up.

Yes but I had a little debate with myself

On the last one I didn’t have an issue when I did that and removed everything to sell the vehicle

I did consider flipping them around and putting them on the seat covers but I figured that would make it hard to wash the seat covers -

They really don’t need to move and bunch up or they can get hotspots.

my bestop are just amazing, they fit as good as possible, they are waterproof, they wont fade, they look great IMO,

here they were new... so all the wrinkles are due being just placed out of the box..

this is how they look topless and after several months of use. I waited until an "open box" were available at Amazon and just paid 80 for the rear (usually around 150) and 130 for the fronts (usually around 180), so it was a great deal for me.... bartact may be better? yes.... maybe... but for 600 dlls they SHOULD be better... its almost twice the normal price and triple for what I paid for mine...

I put my seat heaters on top of the OEM seat cloth and covered with seat covers.

My son put his seat heaters under the OEM seat cloth. His way was more labor intensive (took 2.5 hours for the first one, second one will go faster since he knows what he’s doing.

I think either way is fine, but putting them under the OEM is more like factory, and if you want to add seat covers later, then you can still do that.

You don't like how those look? I thought they look pretty good. No worries. Also, they're from a 2006.

For the money, you can't beat the Caltrend.

Just went down this route. Was able to get a great deal on Bartact from a forum member. Smittybilt is okish barely.

I've had 2 sets of the canvas ones for different pickups I've had and was pleased with quality, price, and most importantly, fit. I just ordered some for my '97 TJ, that has not arrived yet. I don't like neoprene, vinyl, or fake leather, so canvas is the way to go for durability IMO.
