Hey, guys, I noticed when I drive I get a clunking noise, it happens when I am turning seems like something shifts than when I turn the other way I hear the clunk. The sound seems to be underneath in the middle / towards the rear. Any ideas?

I would suggest also checking the transmission mount bolts as well as each of the control arms.

had someone rattle the crap out of it, dropped the tranny skid plate a week ago and tightened it all back down, everything good there. could not seem to find the noise, going to have to keep shaking it

Also...I've seen trackbar's so bad that clunk when turning. It's usually wallowed out or pushing itself up against the trackbar bracket...clunk while turning.
At this point get under it and have a helper steer back and forth a few inches and watch the track bar very carefully. Don't rush this. While under there check every steering joint as well.
If worst case comes jack up all four and run it and try and duplicate in the air. If you can get helper to steer while you see wtf is wrong

No worries, that's a normal trait of a Dana 35 rear axle which you almost assuredly have from that clunking you're hearing. A Dana 35 axle has a c-clip design, it uses a pair of c-clips to hold the axle shafts in. The axle shafts need to be able to be pushed inward probably 1/2" or so so the c-clips can be removed to remove the axles. The c-clips normally sit inside a recess so they don't fall out. Because the axle shafts can move in/out that 1/2" at time, they can produce a very solid-sounding clunking sound. So if you have a Dana 35 as it certainly sounds like you have, no worries... it's completely normal.

Then what you heard might have been from the tail pipe. But the axle shafts in a Dana 35 will for sure make a clunk once in a while like when backing out and turning on a sloped driveway. I had a Dana 35 until around 1999 and it would make that clunking once in a while, it scared me until the above was explained to me.
Hey was out of service for some time, found it was a sway bar end link popping in and out. But would only do it sometimes, and finally gave way. Thanks all!
