Hi there. Stupid question here but I just want to know how severe this problem is (first time Jeep owner, 2002 Wrangler SE, 4.0L 6-cyl. automatic). When I hit a bump on the road, there is a slight clunking/grinding noise that sounds like it's coming from the back right wheel. I have no crazy lifts or tires or anything on my Jeep. If anyone could give me any info as to what it could be/what I should look for that'd be great. Thanks!

Best thing to do is to jack up the Jeep and start grabbing things and shaking them. Start by trying to move the wheels up/down and side to side. Excessive play there could mean a bad wheel bearing.
Grab each control arm at the axle bushing and jerk it around and check for play. Repeat for the frame side. A bad bushing may have some play. Do the same with the trackbar.
If your shocks are worn out, they could be making noise as well.
Grab the driveshaft and jerk it around to check for play in the u joints.

Check the front axle too. Sometimes sounds can echo around and come from apparently different places.

Thank you so much for the helpful advice. I was reading around on this topic and thought it might be the wheel bearings or bushings, I just haven't had a chance to jack it up yet. I will definitely keep my eyes out for those things!

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I just got my frame repaired a few weeks ago. Do you think that them doing that had any effect?

Hey, welcome! Good to have another gal on the forum!!

X2 on looking/feeling for loose bits and the question on what was done to repair the frame. Also, can you make the noise happen by pushing on the Jeep or riding/jumping on the bumper like a rodeo bull?
