Smaller muffler recommendations

I have an old regular size flowmaster muffler that sounds great, but eats up a lot of real estate between the control arms and the shock. While I like the way it sounds, nice rumble with no significant drone, it's been a constant pain in the ass with how it seems to always be banging on the shock when squatting back. I ripped off the back half of it coming off a ledge the other week, so it looks like I've created my opportunity to replace it. I'd like to find something that keeps that low end grunt sound, but is physically smaller.
What's the collective wisdom here on what I should be looking at?

Outboard the shocks and solve the problem!

Mine with RE 5.5" LA kit (now with full set replacement MetalCloak arms) had a small blown-out muffler can attached to the rear cat-con flange. Due to limited space to the adjacent passenger side upper control arm, a wider or longer muffler wouldn't fit without encroachment as wouldn't one with offset outlet. So, I purchased a Magnaflow 17122 which fit well and mated to that existing flange and quieted it a bit inside, however the final solution was routing out the back with a Walker 54287 specific-fit tailpipe, which then required modification to relocate the mating junction point with the round Magnaflow vs oval Walker Dynomax muffler with offset outlet intended for that tailpipe. I don't weld, so had that done. So much quieter now, with no clearance issue at the RR shock body or fuel tank. Links show those products but I paid much less elsewhere than the prices shown. As seems is usually the case, one aftermarket modification leads to another and so on...

Yes, it sounds like my problem is very similar to yours. I have a teraflex long arm kit that's part of the problem... Any chance you might be able to post an audio clip of what that muffler sounds like?

Hadn't tried recording exhaust audio, so downloaded a phone app and attempted without success. Doubtful would truly be representative of "ears-on" anyway. Like the Boogieman showed, this is the Magnaflow 17122. Being 5" OD by 14" OAL with 2.5" pipe diameter, realistic expectations are needed on sound attenuation but exiting out the back from under the tub with a tailpipe is what made the difference between somewhat better and significantly better. I liked that this MF uses a captured flange plate which allowed rotating the muffler to clock orientation for best angle.

This makes a huge difference in internal cab noise level.
