Soft top installation - I'm going crazy! Someone please help.

Did the PO ever put the soft top on? Is it at all possible that the back bar was meant for an LJ and was mistakenly packaged with the TJ instead? Can you get a couple photos of the inside at the back?

That bar is supposed to run the same line with those diagonal seams at the corner of the soft top.

The top is under so much stress that it looks like it's going to slingshot something off the planet if it breaks.

Edit: I'm willing to bet something is wrong with the nylon straps.

Yep, something is definitely amiss with the rear bar location. For reference, this is what it should look like,

Yeah, something is wrong. It should not distort like that by the bar frame. It should be all uniform and even just like the corners.

Yeah agree. It cannot be this hard.

I just took the whole thing down before I do more damage. Let me look at the rear frame.

I could not explain but un button it from the frame and you will see how the tarp sets in.

I cannot see a quick way to unbotton :-(

I'll go watch some videos on YouTube. I really hope I have not done bad damage already.

That’s the problem. It should easily button. The bar fits in between two button strips and buttons easily. Somehow you got it all wrapped up in there funny

Bite the bullet my man, loosen out from the front latch so it loosens up the back, and then un button the back frame, then put the latch back.

I thought something was really weird. This photo shows the issue not only with the back flaps being so high and hard to tuck, but also why the rear window won't zip in. Somehow that back corner got wrapped around that rear bow, and it's not supposed to be. It should just go around it. Can you pull that back out?

I think the whole issue is the top being wrapped somehow around the rear bar. An LJ rear bow looks completely different.

It looks like you pulled the fabric under the bar, around the front, and back up top. You didn't have to wrap it around the bottom.

Loosen up the fabric by detaching the soft top from the Jeep. You probably warped the buttons when you pulled the fabric down to attach it to the tub. A flat head screwdriver will help you pop the buttons apart.

Reattach the soft top to their appropriate locations on the Jeep and then reconnect the buttons on the back bar to the back of the soft top.

Look carefully before you pull too hard, on my LJ there are no buttons it's held in with screws. But yes the part that retains the top to the rear bow isn't on there right. I'd go take pictures for you but the LJ may be different. Anyone with a TJ want to take a picture or two for him?

There must have been a time
when we could have said no.
