Looks awesome, do you have any vibes from the front driveshaft at highway speeds with the 5.89’s?
I’m getting some vibes above 65 so I took the driveshaft in and had it rebalanced and it helped a little but still getting some vibes with the 5.13’s.
Yes, at 60+. I tried all sorts of pinion angles and it didn’t matter. Vibes felt the same. Speed onset was the same. I have all the stuff harmonic vibes are made of: deep gears, 42rle, 241, Savvy MUA.
They’re not bad though. Subtle and increases over 72. I could get hubs.
Same, and my driveshaft is 2” longer from the LS swap. Really don’t want to fork out $2k for manual hubs on the JK axles and change my wheels and not sure the JL brakes would work with them anyways. I may call Tom Woods and see if they have any other suggestions. From where I live I spend 20 minutes at 65+ no matter where I go so I have to get it figured out.
Yeah, if you’re driving those speeds that often you’ll want to figure something out. Could you drive 64?!
We had TW re-balance these shafts just before they went back on. Talked directly with Shawn about what was happening and the 589’s. They triple checked them. I trust they are as good as they can get them.
In your use case it’s very expensive to do hubs. You’re looking at $5k. It’s crazy.![]()
I put it through its paces today out at the ORV park. I think everything is good. I couldn’t find anything wrong. All my clearances are good.Transmission temps sit at 165F the whole time once she warmed up. I think I’m ready to rock!

Yeah, I’m a 1/2 a mile off of a 65mph highway which leads you to a 75mph interstate. I’d get shot doing 64, and it may be self inflicted. I’m not an under the speed limit driver, usually 7-9 over everywhere I go. Too many decades where time is money, lol.
I need to throw it up to full bump again and check clearances to the driveshaft to the transmission shifter lever/cable, I wonder if I can eek in another 1/2” of tube diameter in the driveshaft to help alleviate it. Mine are both TW as well, rear is brand new, front is a year old that I added a flange to, hence why I had it rebalanced. Didn’t change much. Maybe I should have stuck with 4.88’s as was my original plan. With the LS, auto and 4:1 gearing isn’t as important and it’d be significantly cheaper to regear than convert to hubs.
Finished the radiator on the Nissan Murano.Everything works. No leaks. Cooling. Nice to get that off my plate since I didn’t plan for it to get on it to begin with.
Then my son came over today wanting to build a custom sub box for his 2012 Tacoma. I was letting him do it with his big 4x8 sheet of 3/4” MDF. He was drawing the pieces out and cutting out with a Skilsaw. It’s called that bc you really need skills to get straight cuts.I couldn’t watch anymore so I stopped him and made not so few suggestions. From there we were smooth sailing, until…
The speaker was too wide for his mounting board.
So we decided to route out a groove for the edge of the speaker; 3/8” depth and 5/8” width. It all turned out a perfect fit.

It looks like it might be time for a new blade with all that char on the cutlines.

I edited my post above. Thanks Matt!
I’d forgotten that you’d been more involved in carpentry lately. I need to keep up better.
I don't think it mattered at all to negatively impact the quality of work you're doing nor would those edges typically show, it was just a meta comment and not criticism. I just upgraded a bunch of my blades so it was top of mind.
C U soon Matt, and your lovely wife and any little ones you might bring.
I wouldn't subject my wife to all you degenerates!
JK, she's not really into the whole jeeping thing and calls me a retard - so I am rolling solo again. I am working my 10yro into all this, but he is a bit away from having the stomach for most of the technical wheeling (he was stressing pretty hard on a mostly dirt trail here a couple weeks ago). My 7yro daughter would probably handle it just fine, but she's only ready for a 1-2 day trip at this point.
