Third stop light

I recently mounted an LED third stop on my spare mount. When I reinstalled the light after stiffening the bracket it only glows dim when brakes are on.
My tester says I have 12v to the light and it sometimes flashes "on"
What gives

The power for the third brake light on at least some Jeeps comes from those spring loaded tabs on the bottom corner inside of the tailgate. You might take a look at those to see if they are corroded or damaged somehow.
