Toyota H4 headlight kit heads up

Do the harness have the ceramic plug for high heat like my hella 100-130 kit?im having a bad relay (only available in India )problem,might just convert to this kit,are the relays available local?thanks(sorry for all the questions)-jeff

The relays are just ordinary mini ISO relays. The sockets are not ceramic, maybe a high temp plastic?
 
Thanks,my hella kit only had the 2 relays it looks like this kit has 2 blue relays plus 2 more relay looking things,do you know what they are?thanks-jeff

the other 2 are fuses. You could easily fix your Hellas with just ordinary relays and sockets, you don't need the ones that say Hella on them. You can buy 5 pin weatherproof relays with sockets and pigtails already wired in for less than $10 each.

With it getting dark earlier I finally decided to do something about the weak headlights and wanting to keep a traditional look and not spend a ton and get the Toyota light kit. Prices online are all over the place, some places are showing the part number for like $17.68 and when you check shipping it's $48 or more. A Land Cruiser parts store has them for $65. Decided what the heck and stopped at the local Toyota dealer last Friday to see if they can get it and what the price would be. The nice parts lady looked it up and yes it's available and MSRP is $29.99 and our price is $23.07! I had to ask if there was a description and all it says is headlight assy. She said she'd gladly order it and if it wasn't what I wanted she'd send it back. YES PLEASE. Out the door with tax $25.00 even. And it will be here tomorrow. They called next day I went over and knew as soon as the guy brought the box out I knew it was right.

My WAG is Toyota is closing these out with the MSRP at $29.99, how many old Land Cruisers can there still be needing lights? As already noted the quality is top notch and it's plug and play.
If you're thinking about these lights now may be the time to grab them. They look good and definitely throw more light. Aim needs adjusted and I have to try 80/100W bulbs.

It's because if you try and order 2 from the product page dropdown it changes them to 55/60s. If you leave the dropdown alone and put 1 in your cart, then go to your cart and change the qty to 2 you should get 80/100s. I'll let you know on Wednesday;)

Well I was wrong, they sent 55/60s. Will order from Quadratech.

How does this hook up to a stock 2005 rubicon. Has anyone done a write up on the installation?

Should work with any TJ

OK, I ordered 2 kits. took more than a month. Got them last week, $30ea, and CRAZY great QUALITY! especially for the price. I just swapped the bulb house out over the weekend, currently with the included bulbs. Aiming was still good, very noticeable difference and clean cutoff. I've got some other wiring I want to tackle, and will do the Relay Harness then.

Tempted to order a couple more kits while they are still available as I'm sure some other classic I acquire in the future could use these.
 
Put in the 80/100s from Quadratech today, I can see now why everyone said they won't be an issue in the city if aimed correctly. On low beam it's pretty hard to tell that they are even brighter at all (I swapped in only one and went for a drive, then walked out a ways and looked back on both high and low) and on high beam they are slightly brighter. Pretty happy with these lights. Impossible to unscrew the bulb retainer though without removing the entire headlight.

I was able to tap the retaining ring loose with a piece of brass rod. Got it back on with a bent needle-nose and some more tapping. Might give the ring a touch of dry lube or silicone lube so it's easier to turn next time. Will probably replace the 55/100s with 80/100s at some point, why not they're cheap.

I was thinking of making a tool. It is a fraction larger than a 2" ABS/PVC coupling and would need 3 dimples in it. I even tried all my old 4WD sockets and my 3/4" drive sockets, nothing would fit perfect. I have a lot of 2" threaded couplings, might try one of those and if it slips over the nut I can weld in 3 tabs.

I made a tool and it was super easy. I took a 2" ABS coupling, heated it till soft with a heat gun then pressed it onto the retaining nut which I first laid flat on my steel table. Then I took some right angled needle nose and gently put the 3 dimples in. This alone works on the un-installed headlight, but once the headlight is installed there isn't room to get your hand around the coupling due to the recess in the headlight area, so I added a short piece of 2" ABS and cross drilled it for a Phillips screwdriver. Then just press it on and stick a screwdriver in the holes and pop it off. To install, get the retainer started first, then press the tool on and turn till you feel/hear the click. You still have to move one of the horns out of the way on the driver's side but the tool makes the lamp swap a 2 minute job and no blood.
