Under-hood insulation?

my 99 doesn't have it. I don't remember if my 05 LJ had it or not.

Seems like it might help the hood paint last a little longer, though my 99's paint is just fine so I don't know how much of a problem that really is. On the other hand, my 99 doesn't need any help holding heat in the engine compartment, every piece of plastic in there falls apart if you look at it wrong.

Thanks. My 04 does not have it, although I'm not the OO.

What was the official reason for adding it?

According to some press releases the insulation was one of several things added to the LJ to make it quiet on the road. I think they added thicker padding under the carpet too. I saw tests of the interior sound levels driving and it helped a bit. It didn't seem to help my paint at all. Mine finally fell onto the engine after a few days wheeling in the mud this season. To my ears the engine noise is noticeably louder on the road without it but I got tired of my hood weighing 20lbs extra when it was wet and dripping for hours after.

Can you tell any noise difference when wheeling? That's the time I wish mine was quieter. I think when I did my cooling system rebuild in 2018 I accidentally bought some sort of high flow or heavy duty fan clutch 'cause I swear my fan is louder than it ought to be.

Not really, just on the road. My clutch was really loud too compared to the old stock one, I have a Hayden 2771. It's been in since late 2016 and now I don't even notice it. I don't know if it "wore in" or I just got used to it.

I have the 2737, the Amazon description says regular duty but then the application notes say "HD". Many of the reviews comment on how loud it is.

Mine is an early model so it attaches to the water pump via 4-bolt flange instead of that big nut that you later model guys got. From the descriptions though it sounds like they may be equivalent other than the attachment method.
