Vented Hoods

I found a local guy parting out a '98 Grand Cherokee 5.9, and he still had the hood. Wouldn't sell just the louvers. Wanted $150 for the entire hood. I offered $125, he accepted, and I pick it up Saturday. I'll likely be duplicating your positioning, though I'll toy with other positions before committing to the cuts. Did you also use the "trays" on the underside of the hood? I assume those are for diverting rainwater. Here in the PNW, it's probably not a bad idea.
Btw, that Ebay set for $100 (plus crazy shipping cost) is not bad, given the rarity of these things. If I hadn't found these local ones, I'd be all over those. Someone should jump on 'em.

They will. They're black, and have faded paint. If the paint was in good enough shape, I'd consider leaving them black. My TJ is Moss Green, which is fairly dark, so the black wouldn't be a huge contrast. Hell, I might even just repaint 'em black, rather than trying to match the green.

IDK, I think they look best body color. I would at least try and respray in the green. I get very good color match from paintscratch.com and they will mix up any color in multiple sizes.

Well, being that I also have some other stuff that could stand some paint, that might well be the better option. Thanks for the tip!

My louvres have a couple chipped areas and need new paint. They are a hard plastic.
@Squatch would the best way to prep for paint be to use fine wet sand paper?
They are small enough to sand by hand and I think sand blasting may be too harsh maybe ?

I don't think I'd want to risk blasting them with anything, except maybe a soda blasting media (baking soda). I'll likely be doing mine with a fine, wet sandpaper, like you brought up.

I wet sanded mine. Then used regular spray primer, paint and semi gloss clear. I was quite surprised with how well the finish came out.

Does it look to you that the louvres on the GC are too close to the front?
Did the factory routinely put them in this location on all GCs?
It just seems to me they should be.moved more toward the windshield. That's where most of the engine heat is.

I, too, feel the louvers are too far forward on the '98 GCL. speaking strictly from a styling standpoint, it looks "off". And like you, I would think that in regards to function, they'd have been more effective being placed farther back on the hood. But who knows? All I know is that I won't be placing mine anywhere near as far-forward as they did on the GCL.

Yes sir! I’ll take any color. I can color match well or go black. It would be nice to keep the engine bay cooler for all parts. The only ones I like are the GC. You inspired me
