Yea, I hear ya. I lived a year as a type II (I was diagnosed around age 32 and they thought it was type 2 until my "honeymoon period" ended and I became insulin dependent. I gotta say that it gave me a lot of respect for people who are type II since you're a lot more dependent on having a strict diet to control your blood sugar.Yep that sucks, I am a type II diabetic don't have to be nearly as careful as you but it still sucks...difference is if I don't take of my self it is just a longer process to the same result....sucks being in NY and be restricted on pizza!
I just wish I was more disciplined! I might be following you some day.Yea, I hear ya. Don't you just love how the little craters in the waffle trap the syrup too? It's like they're perfectly square little cups designed just to keep the syrup in place.
Pancakes don't even come close. They just get soggy.
Lots of butter filling in every square, then a bunch of powdered sugar which the butter absorbes. And a side of bacon, home done in the oven sprinkled with brown sugar. Stupid good but not exactly a daily breakfast.
I make my own brown sugar based syrup with bourbon. Again, stupid good but probably a bad idea to do every day, sadly enough.
It’s like blondes vs brunettes...definitely going to come down to the individual specimen! Now some things I’ll mention...all my opinions of course!
Waffles don’t get made at home often enough, since you have to get out and heat up the waffle iron...yeah we can be lazy. You don’t usually get waffles for free as an add on with a breakfast at a restaurant, making them even more underrated. While I like them with real maple syrup, as most do, I also love to put real butter on them and then top with brown sugar instead of the syrup. Worth a try if you have never tried it.
With pancakes, you need to add a bit of sugar and real melted butter to the batter to make them taste the best. You also can’t under cook or over cook a pancake, needs to be just right. A well made pancake can rival a waffle depending on it’s quality. They are harder to make perfect than a waffle, so many that quickly say waffles are better may have never sampled a truly amazing pancake. Believe it or not, my wife never put butter on her pancakes before the syrup and I couldn’t believe that she would think that the butter was not needed for taste. I have quickly convinced her otherwise!
With either, I don’t mind fruits added/topped, or whipped cream on the top, but I will typically pass on these toppings to go with the original taste. I love waffles and fried chicken, but not necessary together, LOL.
Dammit @Squatch now I need to go make breakfast! I am actually not a person that eats breakfast every day, but I do love to eat breakfast foods at any time of the day.
Flippin' hilarious, @mots! I still have no real desire for either. Definitely not a breakfast person, and for the most part, not a breakfast food fan either. 'Cept bacon. I mean, c'mon...P.S. Welp, just had a Belgian waffle for lunch, thanks to this post! Wife had pancakes, no kidding!

Just use grass fed butter and it won’t be bad for you, that’s the kind of fat you need. Sounds yummy, I’m going to try this...When I do pancakes, they are from scratch. Boxed mixes are forbidden in our household, same for cakes.
To make em extra good, and bad for you at the same time, make the scratch cake, when done butter both sides, then back on the griddle. The butter will crisp up the edges and infuse in the cake. Add some home made brown sugar syrup and enjoy.

My 13 year old daughter made blueberry pancakes today. They were really good. I'm not sure where she got the cooking gene from.
