Weird intermittent bucking issue when applying gas from a stop

My 2006 jeep wrangler with the 42rle automatic has this weird intermittent issue where the car seems like it bucks when I lightly hit the gas from a stop. I changed the trans fluid and filter a month ago but I really don’t think it’s because of that since it seemed great afterwards for the next few weeks. Any ideas?

There is a well known PCM issue that causes shifting oddities with the 05/06 42rle transmissions. No fix from Jeep, but @Wranglerfix has solved it with their PCMs. It’d be worth a conversation with them to see if your problem is something they can fix.

How is your shifting from 1st to 2nd in the morning? Do you occasionally get a hard shift? Do you ever get a check engine light? How is your idle went up to operating temperature?

No codes no engine lights. The idle seems okay. Shifting is okay for the most part

If you're experiencing idle issues on your Jeep Wrangler TJ the most likely culprit (and the first thing you should check) is your IAC (Idle Air Controller). Often times the IAC gets very gunked up causing the Jeep to idle improperly. A simple cleaning is usually all it takes to get it running as good as new.

If you end up needing to replace your IAC valve (they do fail on occasion), you can find the part numbers (and the links to purchase them on Amazon) below:

2005-2006 IAC Valve (Part # 4861552AC)
1997-2004 IAC Valve (Part # 4874373AB)

I will try this. My thinking is it has something to do with the throttle.

Is a reading of 105% normal when flooring it for tps percent?

Mine goes from approximately 15% @ idle to 75% @ WOT IIRC.

Someone was talking about the throttle percentage being inaccurate on Bluetooth and certain code readers. I wouldn't hold much sway to those numbers.

So far all I’ve done is disconnect the battery and touch the terminals together and then do the reset procedure that involves turning the headlights on and off and the car hasn’t had any issues since.
