What did you do to your TJ today?

I'll be doing this on the weekend.

I got side tracked with the winch. 1" body lift, savvy tc cable, 1" mml.

Transfer case skid replacement on order. And likely adjustable control arms.

I'll go for a while and see what I can break while I do the front axle replacement search at the same time.

Started the rear main seal replacement on the 4.0. Got all of the bolts out except the ones being covered by the starter... Tried to remove the starter and so far no good.

Gonna tackle the rest of it tomorrow after work and try to get it finished.

Any tips on removing the starter when the bolts don't want to cooperate?

Yes,STREET RAYS I use them,do you run isolators?I run 1.5 but Jeep didn’t have isolators when I got it
I replaced all the insulators, front and rear, and painted everything before installing them.

Front was:

2 Each - Moog K160039 Coil Spring Insulator (Uppers)

Rear was: (Upper & Lower)

2 Each - MOOG Steering & Suspension K160060 Coil Spring Insulator, regular

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0031GZ6JA/?tag=wranglerorg-20

I also replaced the Jounce bumpers front and rear, but these were pricey for what you get.

I've not seen any issues with removing starter bolts. Just use your lubricant of choice, along with a decent leverage socket wrench and they should break free.

Thanks for the numbers, those front ones look thick, almost like the 3/4 spacers rough country gives you,how thick are they

Is it true that no matter what you do, the rear main will have small leak? Asking b/c I feel like mine is bit more than a "small" leak but not sure I want to tackle it right now if its not going to completely fix the issue.

Happy to have finally joined the mismatched door club. Just waiting on paint and I’ll take care of these and the CJ tailgate at the same time. The only issue is the soft upper match isn’t great... My soft top is off an ‘04, so medium grey wasn’t an option, but it’s still very grey and the uppers are a few shades darker. It will only be an issue as until I eventually replace the top, and I’ll get matching upper skins.

Any leaks I've see have been the result of improper installation, or an excessive groove in the crank from the old seal. Installed properly, your chances of leaking anytime soon are small.

+1

I believe mine has a groove in the crank from the old seal. Replaced it and it was good for about a year, now has developed a slight seep. Honestly, I'm just going to run high mileage oil at this point. If it's just a seep, there isn't any point in chasing it.

I was thinking the same thing b/c the transmission was rebuilt about 15K miles ago. Sorta hoping it got thrown back together or something.
